Reports on BBC and sky of a white van hitting pedestrians on London Bridge followed by a knife attack. Armed polcie at the scene.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40146916
Police are responding to reports that a van has hit a number of pedestrians on London Bridge in central London.

Witnesses have said that armed officers are understood to be at the scene after a white van mounted the pavement before driving into people.

The Metropolitan Police say they are dealing with an incident on the bridge.

Transport for London said the bridge has been closed in both directions due to a "major police incident". Bus routes were being diverted.

BBC News Channel is reporting a white van has mowed down a number of pedestrians on London Bridge and then apparently sped off.

Sky News indicate a van has hit 5 or 6 people on the pavement on or close to London Bridge

Taxi driver rang Nick Abbot and he said he saw about 4 people hit. Someone else has just said a van started running over people according to the police. They saw 6 or 7.

Parts of London Bridge station is closed and some services are not stopping there, although others are. It's fairly recent so there is no general disruption note on the departure board summary for London Bridge yet.

BBC News Channel - BBC reporter Holly Jones was on the bridge at the time and witnessed it all, was first to call the emergency services and has been on the air ever since. Right now she's been asked to stop reporting and speak to the police,

No doubt a very serious incident is unfolding and a very upsetting one for all involved. I know the London Bridge area even better than Westminster Bridge, where the previous apparently similar incident occurred. I'm always lost for words when I try to understand how someone could deliberately do something like this (if the initial reports are to be believed). Many of my friends have been enjoying a night out in a different part of central London tonight. I would have been too had circumstances been slightly different.

However, I must admit I was surprised that no pavement security measures were implemented on London Bridge since the Westminster incident. I've walked over London Bridge a number of times since, including only a few days ago, and it is unfortunately a thoroughfare which is most inviting to all sorts of misdemeanours, be they doing great evil such as may have happened tonight, or just cycling on the pavement, people demanding money, illegal trading or whatever it may be. Introducing some physical and visual obstructions could make it less appealing to terrorism and illegal vehicle use, and also reduce the likelihood of crowding and people paying attention to antisocial behaviour (introducing obstructions can actually aid dispersal if done properly). The irony is that most of the local offices and shops seem to have protection, but not the focal point of the bridge itself.

Live on air just now on BBC News Channel, the reporter heard what he thought was a shot fired.

BTP & press association confirm "a number of casualties"

Incidents reported on London Bridge, stabbing at Southwark Tavern pub and an incident at Borough market ( the second and third could be the same) along with reports of gun fire in the area.

This is a really busy area with people enjoying themselves on a Saturday night and it would have been very crowded at 2230. It really is terrible.

It's terrible - obviously an ongoing situation, as further ambulances and fire engines were arriving as I watched live three or four minutes ago.

This is truly awful :( And so soon after Manchester.

Given how many people use London Bridge every weekday, I can imagine this is going to make a lot of people feel very worried on their commutes :(

Apparently a taxi driver tried to run over one of the attackers but the police got there first and arrested him.

I'm not worried at all. I was at Portcullis House when the Westminster attack kicked off. I encourage others to be unworried for their safety also. Far more likely you'll be killed by a van driver through inattention than through intent.

Just one last contribution from me here tonight, but I think it's important as it's coming direct from the Met Police - they are telling people in the Borough Market and Vauxhall areas to barricade themselves in and switch mobiles off - a truly appalling situation, and as an old South Londoner I'm so, so sorry for anyone caught up in this. Obviously far from a 'lone wolf'.

Also, 20 injured as well, according to my MSM feed.
