Hi folks
I am trying to book some Cardiff to Paddington 1st class tickets for next month on 1026 service - GWR site keeps trying to reserve seats in coach E which I think is standard on HSTs ? Am I going mad ?

I did wonder if it is but real time trains site shows it running from Swansea as a HST ??? Think I'll look for HST on alternative service as not keen on new seats !

Real time trains doesn't show what is booked for services... just timing loads. If you have a 1st class reservation in coach E then it will be an IET

I shouldn't worry. First Class tickets are valid in First Class if it is provided, whatever type of stock turns up on the day. You won't be asked to sit in Standard unless for some reason that is all that is available (and in that case you would be entitled to a part refund).

There's at least one 800/3 out on test, but they're not due into public service till June.

Are you travelling on an Advance ticket or an Anytime/Off Peak? If it is the latter, then you need not worry about sitting in the reserved seat, should there be a mix up.

You don't need to worry about it at all.

I have seen first hand an RPO say to a passenger with an Advance ticket, that she will give him permission to move seats if the WiFi he had bought still wasn't working in five minutes. Perhaps it was just a company policy.

If the coach doesn't exist you can't sit in it so your point is irrelevant.

I thought the issue was the OP wanting First Class but E being an STD?
No coach E is first class on an IET and is standard on an HST. He is booked on an IET so there is no problem and if an HST does turn up for whatever reason then he can just take a seat in first class anyway as reservations either won't be applied or will be placed in the relevant first class accommodation.
