What is probably an unprecedented level of investment for Cornwall. May explain the snail's pace of repaints.

I was only thinking back around October that perhaps the repainting programme will really kick start again. Plenty of potential candidates in mid life Darts and some Solos as well and quite a selection still in shabby looking “Barbie”.

Now it seems that they are going so hindsight is a wonderful thing....

I've got to ask, why are the Jersey Darts going? I Thought they were brought in to cover some of Kernow's narrower lanes. I.e for the 24 to Fowey.

The 24 isn’t particularly narrow, western greyhound used normal Short darts. From a passenger point of view those jersey darts are awful. Nowhere to put my knees,

Agreed. Cramped and noisy. Typical Caetano Nimbus.

I agree with you there haha. Being a tall person when I was catching buses, it was a nightmare.

The 24 isn't too bad - back in the day, Western National ran Lodekkas to Fowey! Granted, WN and WG used minis but that was more for Mevagissey and now they terminate at the turning point rather than running the loop through the village, it's fine.

That said, there were a few routes in places like Helford Estuary, Lizard and North Cornwall where their smaller dimensions were useful, if perhaps not necessary.

The number of e200s is a lot higher than was indicated.

And there are plenty of narrow Solos in the fleet. The M6 only requires a maximum of three of these.

Great buses I remember them fondly!!
I used to drive them in London. I always used the gears rather than the sluggish auto function. They were basic, but fun. However, I'm glad I didn't have to drive them all the time.

There were quite a few in use in Cornwall, over 20 at various times before they were sold on and replaced initially by ex Southampton citybus Atlanteans.

Some of them were operated in crew mode: the only time I've witnessed a punch-up between a driver and his conductor was on the 'pilot' route 24 one p.m. peak when the conductor, standing by the front door, refused to take any more passengers on to his half empty bus because 'there's three more behind: go and get on one of them' whereupon the driver shouted 'you're a something whinger, just get on with your something job' and the conductor took a swing at him with, possibly, his ticket machine (no driver screens in those days) and a brawl ensued! Along with the other passengers, I decamped to one of the (by then) four buses behind! Life on the buses was more exciting in those days:smile:

Fights between bus crews weren't unusual...

Just wondering, why aren't the TT-- TRU plate coaches all in the green truronian livery (TT05TRU, TT55TRU, and TT07TRU)

The only one that carries the livery is TT04TRU, I'll show some images below (not mine):

Apart from all these coaches, a scania irizar also carries the branding, though only for a short time I think until the old first kernow coaches branding gets put back on it.

Blackpudding-yes it would be interesting to know what happened to or where are the withdrawn single deckers (and a couple of coaches and Solos) still down on the official fleetlist as still owned by FSW. At the risk of taking up a lot of space it would be good to know the situation with 23009 23202 23303 42430 42469 42474 42476 42521 42522 42526 42725 42842 48232 48233 48234 48266 53001 53011 60814 62214 65579 and possibly 40570 40581 40588 40591.
If there is any information out there it would be good to know. Thanks.

My thanks to all who replied to this enquiry. If anyone has any information on 23009 40581 42469 42474 42476 42526 42842 48233 53001 please let us know. Many thanks again.

All Falmouth services are suspended including Truro College and University services and Helston services are also cancelled currently due to the Snow, ice and RTAs, all Kernow services are disrupted in some way or another
