Pendolino stabled or broke at Stafford Platform 6

Not sure if this should be in this section or Diagrams and Allocations:

At Stafford this lunchtime there was a Pendolino standing on Platform 6. Very unusual.
I asked around it was told it came in about an hour before from Crewe direction empty stock and had been there ever since.

Is this a usual diagram?

Beat me to it It was scheduled there for 1h and 20mins from Manchester to London. It is definitely not regular as it was a VSTP, I'm not sure why it ran like this but there must be a valid reason.

Needed to kick it out of Piccadilly as was so late it couldn't do its booked trip to Euston and back?

Stafford Platform 6 is probably the nearest normally "spare" platform accessible from Piccadilly.

Wonder why it couldn't have gone onto Longsight or into the down side Goods Loop south of Ardwick?
