92038 finally made it to Crewe in the end - about 3 hours late, but after over 7 months in Brush that was small change really. For those interested, some photos of the Dellners can be found via the links below (including the coupling to the 66 using the 'classic' draw-hook with the Dellner dropped down):

Thanks for the pics, most interesting.

So what's the thinking... are we looking at lengthy conversions/mods to the rest of the fleet of 92s, or now that the template has been completed should we expect a quicker turn around.

Now the first one has been done and there's a template, together with all the "lessons learnt", I fully expect the other 92s to have their CAF mods completed with a much quicker turn-around. 038 was also in Brush for its full overhaul and reliability mods - all the other 92s currently due to have the CAF mods have already been done - so that contributed to the length of time 038 was in Loughborough.

I look at that and think "what a lot of things to go wrong".

Are they raised and lowered manually?

If all else fails there's still a big draw-hook (not much use for Mk5s admittedly...)

I believe they are raised manually, although not 100% sure. I would imagine that when the locos are on Sleeper diagrams (which for the "main" Sleeper locos will probably be most of the time) the Dellners will be put in the raised position and left like that. Unless there's a requirement to drop the one on the leading end for some reason - but them having to lift them up and down all the time would significantly negate their efficiency benefits.

Paths in for a Class 92 move from Crewe Holding Sidings to Loughborough Brush on Sunday - almost certainly 92014 as it's been sat in Crewe Down Holding Sidings on "T" (Transfer) for the last week and likely to be going in as the next 92 to receive the CAF mods.

Sunday 18th:
0K50 0815 Toton North Yard Gbrf to Crewe H.S. (Assisting 66): http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R50738/2018/02/18/advanced

0Z51 1120 Crewe H.S. to Loughborough Brush: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R50737/2018/02/18/advanced

0Z52 1515 Loughborough Brush to Toton North Yard Gbrf (Assisting 66): http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R50739/2018/02/18/advanced

If you have 5 mins to spare (or waste ) and want to watch 66721 "Harry Beck" shunting 92014 in and out of Crewe on 0Z51 Crewe Holding Sidings to Loughborough Brush this morning, please see below...

Should be all 92s on the main runs again tonight (for the third night running):

1S25 - 92010
1S26 - 92018
1M11 - 92033 (as stated)
1M16 - 92043

Of the others, 038 is at Polmadie for Mk5 testing; 028 is at Carlisle having worked the china clays as far as there (on time!) earlier and 044 is at the tunnel. 014, 023 and 032 are at Brush, along with the to-be-reinstated 006/020 and long term stored 045/046. 021/040 remain stored in Frethun.

92043 working 6S94 china clay tanks today (with 66704 DIT Wembley to Carlisle) - first time 043 has worked the china clays certainly as a GBRf or Europorte loco and possibly ever. Pic here: https://flic.kr/p/22cSjNU

044 assisted 043 through the tunnel with the loaded tanks overnight and it's believed they took the TPE Class 68s (019/021) out to France on their out to collect the 6S94 tanks.

Also, paths in for a 92 release from Brush tomorrow (credit to @Mag_seven for spotting). Candidates are 023 and/or 032:

Toton to Loughborough Brush (0Z50) - Assisting Class 66:
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R00725/2018/03/08/advanced

Loughborough Brush to Crewe HS (0Z51):
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R00728/2018/03/08/advanced

Also a path in for a possible loco switch thereafter on the cars - Crewe H.S. to Garston (0L48):

92038 has also been doing some of the ECS moves between Glasgow and Polmadie this week. I'm assuming they're the first times it's been hooked up to the old (Mk.2/Mk.3) stock since leaving Brush following mods/overhaul?

Class 92 release did not happen today - reason unknown. A loco switch for the Garston - Dagenham cars did take place in that 66755 was replaced by 66763.

Fantastic :D
Thanks for letting us know
No worries - still not left 70 mins after booked departure, but keeping the faith this time as at least the 66 (+ driver presumably) is there which is always half the battle!

92032 and 92023 coming out of Brush earlier this evening - 92032 with smart-looking bogies and 92023 with Dellners/CAF mods:

Excuse me for being too simplistic. Why not send a driver qualified to drive a 92 to bring the 92's back i.e. a train fare or bus fare to get the driver there and the guys wages to pay, rather than sending a 66 and driver and then burning diesel to move the 92's. Seems like one to many locomotives being used.

If you’re referring to the move from Brush, then the lack of overhead wires or third rail might be a slight flaw in your plan...

Again being simplistic would Brush not have a shunter to take the locos from the repair depot to the nearest electrified rail line or is that far to far away. I assume that there would be shunter there due to the amount of locos at the yard again maybe too simplistic.

No wires until Nuneaton (about an hour from Brush), hence the diesel haulage.

They do indeed have shunters at Brush, but only for within the works. I very much doubt they’re mainline certified.

OK that makes a lot of sence.
Just as an aside, the driver who brought them out did sign both 66s and 92s - it was the same chap who drove the 66 to Crewe who then drove 92032 to take the convoy back out of the station a few minutes later. I believe that's the case for quite a lot of the drivers who do the Brush moves.

Paths also in on Sunday for a loco move from Crewe H.S. to Brush - most probably 92028 given its being moved to Crewe H.S. today.
Assuming it's going in for CAF mods it would make it the fifth 92 and first "freight" liveried one to have these done (038/023 complete, 014/033 currently in Brush):

0K50 0835 Toton North Yard GBRf to Crewe H.S. (assisting Class 66)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R70856/2018/03/18/advanced

0Z51 1141 Crewe H.S. to Loughborough Brush
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R70855/2018/03/18/advanced

0Z52 1545 Loughborough Brush to Toton North Yard GBRf (assisting Class 66)

Taking a stab at it, and guessing, we're probably looking at a minimum of 6-8 weeks to do the dellner fitment and CAF mods...
Only way I can see us having all the CS 92s and some of the 'freight' 92s modified by September/October for the new stock debuting

It's only the lowlander that's due to go over to the new stock in october... so they don't necessarily need the full complement of modified 92s ready by then.

Don't forget 92006/020 are being added to the pool and they will also have Dellners fitted during their current overhauls.
