We like to have options, so let's head to Doncaster, boarding the 18:17 TransPennine Express rail service to Doncaster, arriving there at 18:35 on Monday evening.

I'm glad someone know's what I'm trying to say. I never know which one's which!

Not to worry, I'd do the same probably!

We then take an 11 minute (0.5 mile) walk to the station, where we board the 17:08 Transpennine Express service 1B87 to Meadowhall, arriving at 18:01 Monday afternoon.

Transferring to the light rail platforms, we then board the 1810 Supertram Yellow Line service to Langsett - Primrose View, arriving there at 1841 on Monday evening.

Oops I didn't see Paul's move to Southampton. Bear with....

Here we change TOC and board the 1859 Cross Country service to Southampton Central that arrives at 2320 on Monday evening.

We just have enough time to exit the station and board the 2325 Unilink service U1E to Southampton Airport Parkway Station, arriving there at 2355 on Monday evening.

As much as I'd like to take the 7:40 flight to Aberdeen (or the 9:25 to Bergerac for that matter!), this is a ground (and water) based game, so instead let's board the 05:21 Cross Country service 1M18 to Stockport, arriving at 09:13 Tuesday morning.

Ah, the joys of Stockport. But thanks to @DanTrain, we are better-placed to sample the delights of Crewe than we were before, so we board the 09:38 Arriva Trains Wales rail service to Crewe, arriving there at 10:06 on what can only be described as a Tuesday morning.

Next, we board the 14:33 Virgin Trains East Coast rail service to Aberdeen, arriving there at 17:04 on Tuesday evening.

A bit late for the ferry but we're still well-placed for the next day's travel.

Here, we board the 08:55 ScotRail service 2H81 to Kyle of Lochalsh, arriving at 11:30 Wednesday morning.

Edit: it seems it's a 0.2 mile walk to the station (not that it makes a difference)

The ferry for the Small Isles left a few hours ago, so instead we walk to the Knoydart Ferry pier at Mallaig, and board the 14:30 Western Isles Cruises ferry service to Inverie, arriving there at 15:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

The most remote place in the UK apparently (and looks stunning)!

As a result, we have little choice other than to board the 16:15 Western Isles Cruises ferry service back to Mallaig, arriving at 17:00 Wednesday afternoon.

I'm going to assume that the 08:50 Macneil Coaches bus W32 connects with the ferry (otherwise what would be the point!), so we'll board it as far as Castlebay, at Post Office, where we arrive at 09:22 Thursday morning.

Oo-er! The ferry doesn't depart until 07:55 in the morning, Chief!

We'd better head for our first new island today: Vatersay. We booked ahead the previous day, so at the Post Office we board the 09:30 MacNeil Coaches bus service to Vatersay (Village), arriving there at 09:45 on Thursday morning.

Seeing as the 09:45 back is essentially the same bus, we instead stay and look round (annoy/entertain the locals!), and board the 12:25 (again, all booked) MacNeil Coaches service W33 back to Castlebay, at The Square, arriving at 12:42 Thursday midday.

We buy some fish and chips before strolling to the Post Office and boarding the 13:20 MacNeil Coaches route W32 bus service to Aird Mhòr (Pier), which arrives there at 14:33 on Thursday afternoon.
