After tonight's delivery they'll have 10 385/0s, but only 5 385/1s.

Maybe they're planning on using the 385/0s on North Berwick/Dunbar services soon. This would allow some 380s to be cascaded back to Ayrshire/Inverclyde.

Or maybe Glasgow to Cumbernauld/Falkirk Grahamston allowing DMUs to be cascaded?

Presumably when the 4 test units return fitted out from Italy they can go straight into service. With no need for the Hitachi engineers. They have done plenty of mileage.

Presumably will be used to replace the 380 diagrams. In one sweep, assuming enough staff are trained.

The next move will be to release 365s for staff training on Dunblane and Alloa services. Till enough 385/0 are in service.

Are the 385s now being delivered with the new windshield or are they continuing to be retrofitted at Millerhill?

Sorta fell onto 385005/103 at Queen Street tonight (was working the 20:00 to Edinburgh), so I decided to give them a go, although only to Croy.

They can certainly shift up the incline from Queen Street, the seats are alright (better than the ones in the 170 I caught back from Croy). Nice light interior and I look forward to having another trip.

Are they any quicker than the 380s up the inline? Even the 365s seem pretty fast compared with years of 170s!

Two delivery paths have been loaded for the coming week. Tuesday and Friday. We'll see. I would have thought they should be delivering at least one set every week by now if they are to have enough for when the Stirling etc is launched.

technically a 7car 380 should be quicker off the blocks than a 7car 385 as the 3 car set on the 380 has 4 powered bogies (8 powered axles) whilst the 3 car 385 only has 3 powered bogies (6 powered axles) to save a measly 1.5tons in weight!!!

Going back a long time in this thread, there was a discussion about the seats. People have said they are Fainsa seats but on Quantum's website, they said they made the seats for the 385s. Looks can be deceptive, especially when the Quantum M101 looks very similar to the Fainsa 'Ironing Board'.

I think you might be right - but - where did you see that on their website?

A google search with the term of '385 site:quantumseating.com' gives absolutely no mention of '385' on their website.

The seats are Fainsa. They're an identical frame to every other Fainsa ironing board out there, including as on the 156s, which isn't really that similar to the Quantum design.

The closest I could get when I looked was the reference to the Hitachi AT200 and a comparative picture of the M101 seat against a ScotRail 385 does show a slight similarity in the cushion (the indented parts) - but - from a far away glance there is a little bit of commonality between the two designs.

A thread on this here forum in 2016 does seem to confirm that it was Quantum in the original AT200 prototype, but, has changed to Fainsa. The commonality for the depots would certainly make some sense going forward.

On the news section of their website.
Here it is:
22/7/2014
Hitachi Rail Europe launched its newly designed AT200 commuter train at an event for rail industry representatives in London. ATD's new H200 range of seats, designed specifically for Hitachi Rail Europe, provide the highest level of passenger comfort with a layout that facilitates easy luggage storage and maximises passenger numbers in busy periods. The light weight seats exceed the stringent safety regulations required by GMRT 2100 Issue 5. See the new train design and hear from Brett Townsend, MD of ATD and others...

Couldn’t work out who ATD are, but it seems they are the parent company Automotive Trim Developments. Quantum being their attempt to break into rail.

Looks like one of the 385s that’s in service failed this morning. Lots of angry ranting on Twitter from commuters targeting ScotRail for replacing the 7 car set with a 3 car set.

Update: ScotRail have said the 385s are fine, but I’ve seen 3 different people on twitter say that one failed and was replaced by a 3 car 170. Maybe they’ve switched a diagram?

Looks like they did, I got the 07.49 from Linlithgow to Glasgow which is normally an 8-car 365, and this morning it was a 7-car 380.

Nothing unusual with the twitter rants. Don't understand how the social media teams cope!

005 and 103 had problems at Edinburgh Park last night on 1R42 2230 Edinburgh - Queen Street and were replaced this morning by 170393. I'm hearing there's a good chance that a 6 car 385 (2x 3 cars) might be entering traffic for the first time on the E&G later today.

If there are new 385/0 units coming into service tonight then I imagine it would be 004 and/or 016. They're the only other two units with the updated windshields that I've seen.

Sorry if it’s bloody obvious and I’ve missed it, but is there an up to date list of what units are where and those that have been delivered to ScotRail?!

The light engine is on its way again. Let's hope it isn't a wasted trip, and there is a unit to collect.
