The fire service arrived within six minutes to tackle the blaze between two carriages.
This shocking video shows an explosion on a
Merseyrail train which caused delays this morning.
There have been no reported injuries but passengers on a service from
Kirkby to
Fazakerley were asked to move to the front of the train at around 6.42am.
Crews from
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were on scene at 6.50am.
A statement from the fire service said: "Two fire engines are in attendance, as well as the search and rescue.
On arrival, crews found a small fire between two railway carriages. Crews are using dry power extinguishers and CO2 extinguishers to put out the fire.
"All passengers have been moved to the front of the train. There have been no injuries.
"As a result of this incident, the train line has been closed and delays are expected throughout the morning. Please check before you travel."
