Depends what the issues with them is. It could be that being new they are too tight to couple reliably and, with use, will 'wear in'.

How do you end up with a need for 61 independent connectors anyway...

Independent wires for different purposes, so there is a pair for brakes, a pair for door controls, a pair for coms, a pair for fire, a pair for safety, etc.
Yes the 60's, 70's and 80's have called and are thankful that canbus hadn't been developed.. let alone ETB.

While I can see that certain safety critical things would be kept independent... I'd have expected that modern electronics would mean you'd just have one link carrying data and then there'd be some sort of hub in each carriage sending signals to individual bits and bobs.

It doesn’t matter what the connector is carrying if you chose the wrong connector as has happened here. This is already subject to an NIR and likely a campaign change.

What does this mean?
Means they’re all likely to get replaced (by something more robust) - so those concerned about their resilience in poor weather etc can sleep more easily at night.

(NIR = National Incident Report issued by RSSB.)

From tomorrow night boarding has been put back to 2230 at Euston according to CS's website.
Tonight was supposed to be the launch of the Mk5's on the Highlander. If CS's twitter is anything to go by it could be a difficult night as like me, a lot of guests don't appear to have received an email from CS confirming it's still the old stock.

Is it still the old stock or not? I'm going tomorrow and will be very unhappy if it's the old stock. Can I get a refund?

The Highlander is most certainly old stock for the foreseeable future, and from what I hear don't hold your breath on the start of July either.

If you're concerned about a refund then phone them, emails are taking ages to get answered.

Bugger. No shower for me then :(

I've paid new stock prices, surely I'm owed some kind of refund?
going by responses elsewhere from their social media folks, you should be due a partial refund (or full refund if you decide not to travel). It’d be advisable to give them a call or tweet to clarify…

I haven't received an email, I'm the same as the tweeter; I have hotel and flight booked too so I shall still make the trip. I want a refund though cos I've paid £205 for a club solo room. Any idea what the cost of the berth I'll be getting is? And will I now be liable to sharing with a stranger? That will be a huge no no for me!

They don't do "share with a stranger" any more, happily.
How much cheaper it will be: I don't know. One of the problems I get as a wheelchair user is it is often impossible to tell how much the cost will be, because it is often the only classic room left and so they stop advertising classic prices. Always a complete mystery

Has it been delayed later than the 7th July date?
As I have booked a Club room on the 9th July if it is not the new stock will they still guarantee a room and will I still get access to the First Class lounge and Shower at Euston?

I'm going to put my money on it being August or September before the mk5s appear on the highlander. Not because i have any special info... just looks like it's going that way to me.

Whats the delay, have they still not all arrived yet?

All your questions will be answered by a phone call to the cal sleeper and stranger sharing has been done away with for months now.

You can't book with a stranger, but on a few occasions (ie when the seated coach is OOU) they have tried to make people share berths.

+1, wonder what the odds would be down the bookies...

There are more rooms/berths on the old stock, so you'll be guaranteed a (First Class) room/berth. No reason you shouldn't get access to the lounge etc at Euston if it's still the old stock.

71 of 75 coaches now delivered (66 needed to operate a full service).
It's a variety of issues causing the delays, not one specific thing.

If the seats fail its permissible for same sex sharing to accommodate those displaced from the seats as far as I understand.

Just spoke with them, I will get a 33% refund and £20 compensation plus use of the shower facilities at Inverness. That's OK I suppose.

Blimey, how generous!
I think the £20 refund is the diff between the price of berth on new stock vs old if you are in the basic 2 berth rooms, if you had a more pricey option on new stock then I think you would get a larger refund etc
