Got to agree with 37401, The Likely Lads episode & the titles with those all-blue met-camms is great. Strangely enough i never liked the show then & still dont.

Im also going to say Dom Jollys complainers where he rants on about FGW, for those who havnt seen it he does the fare strike, visits the DfT, visits Long Marston and gets on a wedged FGW/TPE 158, all done in his usual comic style

Never saw that one, will look into it.

My favourites have to be Oh Mr Porter which is a classic, Oh Doctor Beeching which should have been extended beyond 2 series and Von Ryan's Express.

Why is it never repeated?? I used to love it & remember talking to the SVR staff about its filming at Arley.

Snow Drift at Bleath Gill.

Especially the bit where having gone through all the drifts, and reached the stranded train. A door opens in the side of the plough and the PW gang climb out.

I think it was due to the popularity rise of reality based shows such as X Factor etc...which caused that.

For anybody interested in steam try "The Train" starring Burt Lancaster a film about WW2, but very good, then there is "Von Ryans Express" another film based on WW2,both recommended.

I'm not old enough to remember the professionals the first time around but I am a fan of it regardless and bought the dvd's. There is an episode where they are both running around a yard chasing someone with various engines running about left right and centre. I'd love to know it's location.

Some of the American stuff has been good to watch - The French Connection chase scenes and (Original) Taking of Pelham 123 to name two.

I'm not sure, it would require I bit of searching through all 4 seasons, which I am going to to shortly as i'm now intrigued you may be able to tell me. I do remember they were chasing a woman who was armed with a pistol.

Doctor Who - The Silurians (1970) where Geoffrey Palmer arrives at Marylebone diseased; there are several scenes with people collapsing with some nice shots from a high angle showing the station off; the station is used again in....... Carry on Girls! Some of the beauty competition contestants bobble along the platform before Bernard Bresslaw falls onto Margaret Nolan's breasts on the train.

Lots of good stuff to choose from but my favourite is the opening title sequence of 'Robbery' from 1967, with D318 running on the Rugby - Market Harborough line in darkness. When I was a secondman at Stonebridge Park I worked alongside the driver who took the controls during the filming, Jimmy Knowles (probably long dead now), he told me that he and his mate spent about two weeks running up and down the line and got loads of overtime for it. I believe the actual robbery sequence was filmed near Theddingworth station, I went along to have a look a few days ago and the bridge is still there.

I know the robbery of 1M44 in August '63 is still a very touchy subject amongst those on the job, but the film itself is a Brit classic, although it's only loosely based on the real event.

quite a few classic british series will have unusual references to trains or their sounds. "Minder" 1st series "The Beer Hunter" when Brian Glover wakes up next to his "prossie" there is the clear sound of a 37 growling in the background!
