Not sure if you're about, train, but 88009 is due through Stafford at 1250:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H01677/2019/07/25/advanced

Palmersears, Mr Trains having internet issues, so sent him your gen via text. He says cheers mate, hes managed to see it. Much appreciated.<:D

Super, glad to have been of assistance!

A brief respite in the work 3 are doing to their network locally has allowed me to get on here. I did indeed make it after a lot of rushing around to do so (not the best idea in this weather). Wasn't quick enough to get on the station for a pic but it's another into the book of sights nonetheless. Thanks to you both for your help on this one :)

Interestingly, as I was walking back home 68009 passed through as well.

Are 88s on all of the scotch workings now? First time I've clocked one working South during the middle of the day

They've taken over the Russell's traffic from DBC. So as well as the Tesco Express to/from Mossend there's also four extra workings a day that pass through at 0515 and 1250 (Southbound), and 1330 and 1920 (Northbound). Two diagrams, two 88s, and they tend to cycle through the fleet fairly regularly.

Thanks mate, I've seen 88001 doing the 1330 northbound a few times now but today was the first time I'd seen a southbound working. Should help me to clear these up though :)

More fun at the local - Monday 22nd July 2019

As the weather was nice (a little too nice actually), I decided to venture down to the local last Monday for a few hours to enjoy the afternoon rush. So armed with my book, I ventured down Station Road where I was able to see 47813 heading back to Leicester L.I.P - it produced a fine example of that 47 growl as well. There were a couple of workings which caught my eye on RTT so I ventured over to P5/6 as a couple were pathed through the little used platform 6 and from here I spied my first shed of the day as dud 66135 ventured through with a rake of cars on route to the docks at Southampton. Departmental workings have become my friend at the local with winners becoming less frequent and it was nice to see DR98004 for the first time as it enjoyed a 20 minute wait in the goods loop
DR98004 & DR98003 by The_Train

The regular sighting of 66429 was next as it remained on the Crewe Basford Hall to Cliffe Hill Stud working but then all hell seemed to break loose, which seemed to be because of the late arrival of 1F16 1324 VTWC service to Liverpool. 37800 was working light from Leicester to Crewe South Yard and it appeared on the down fast, where it was held for a lengthy period of time as passenger services were pathed in favour of it. This working would normally head through the GL or P6/5 but with the goods loop occupied and the signallers clearly wanting to keep P5 clear for passenger workings, I was still confused as to why P6 wasn't used. That was until 350117 appeared in P6 to make a scheduled stop so that the late running VTWC service could remain in its planned platform 3. This would have worked quite well had a Crewe Gresty Bridge to Crewe Gresty Bridge light engine working (I'd noticed it was working as 0Z88 so thought I might be in luck with an 88 I need) not been sat at Little Bridgford Jct waiting for a path into P6. Whilst trains queued up behind this, the signallers eventually got things moving again with dud 88007 eventually arriving into P3. Whilst all this was going on 88001 made its way through P5 with the Daventry to Mossend working before DR98004 finally departed and allowed me to see that it had DR98003 for company
88001 by The_Train

There was also a Crewe Electric to Wembley working out and about and this is one that can throw up something as plain as a FLR 90 or something a bit more interesting such as 67021, in its Pullman Brown and Cream livery, hauling 59206 southbound
67021 and 59206 by The_Train

Things started to calm down a bit after this with just dud 66164 passing through alongside the multitude of Pendos, 350s and Voyagers such as 221133
221133 at Stafford by The_Train

A couple more FLR 66/5s went onto the dud list before 66148 brought a smile to my face as it headed towards Daventry having worked from Mossend in place of the usual 90s (something to do with the diverts in place I believe?)
66148 by The_Train

Just 5 minutes later and the MPVs were making my winner count seem extraordinary as DR80303 and DR80301 passed by heading towards Edge Hill
DR80303 and DR80301 by The_Train

6 winners at the local already. Been a long time since I made it to double figures here but could today be the day to do just that? Well my hopes were certainly raised a few minutes later as 66074 went into the book whilst hauling a rake of cement wagons to Theale. It was 20 minutes to the next freight working so I immersed myself in yet another new book before 66116 passed through as it hauled a rake of containers to London Gateway. I enjoyed a stroll across to the south end of the P3/4 for no reason whatsoever, but I did spy dud 66508 heading north
66508 by The_Train

One of the workings that caught my eye was a Crown Point to Crewe Electric as I'd hoped this might be something that I'd missed out on during my trip to Anglia. It was pathed into P6 with a bit of a wait, so I headed back across there only to be disappointed when I saw that it was a 57 running light. However, my disappointment soon faded when I realised it was the very much required 57003
57003 by The_Train

That took my tally for the day to 9 and I felt that despite this being an unreal haul at the local, there'd be a tinge of disappointment at not making it to double figures. However, those fears were soon alleviated when 66522 made an appearance as it headed South towards Felixstowe
66522 by The_Train

68004 flew through next as it headed home to Gresty Bridge on an STP working from Bescot before the fantastic looking 66780 showed off it's glorious Cemex livery as it worked from Longport to Basford Hall
The No.1 livery? by The_Train

I was planning to hang around for a light engine working from Wembley but I was told that it was a FLR 90 so decided against waiting for that, instead I waited for 66221 to come by on an Ince & Elton to Bescot working as, thanks to my new fangled spreadsheet, I knew I needed a photo of it which I duly grabbed before heading home happy with such a great haul of 10 winners.

A few days later, having just completed my daily exercise and with me about to head into the shower I received a message from @47403 advising me that @palmersears had posted gen on here regarding 88009 which was a requirement for me. Unfortunately with 3 conducting necessary works locally, I had very limited access to the internet so would have missed this had Mr 403 not had the foresight to text me. Only problem was 009 was only 15 minutes away from Stafford so it was a swift shower, followed by a swift change and it allowed me to see a southbound 88009 as I walked towards the station (I wasn't quick enough to make it onto the platform for a pic). I decided to have a swift walk around the block to continue my exercise theme and as I headed back past the station 68009 passed through before I headed home where I felt like I needed another shower after all that rushing about - it's been a bit hot this week hasn't it? :E

My next outings will be a Cheshire Day Ranger to make inroads into the Merseyrail stuff whilst also chipping away at Northern. The Southern Daysave also remains on my radar to start hitting the London stuff.

On top of these I'm also looking at a day out at the GCR for their next gala in September and I'm now also considering using the money I'd previously hoped to use on a railtour for a few days out instead. My initial thought for this is to head into Scotland for 3-4 days where I'd want to grab more of the stuff around the Glasgow area, spend time around Edinburgh and Haymarket and also ride the Fife Circle. I'd also maybe want to keep a bit of time spare to do non-railway related stuff just to mix it up a bit. Thinking September time for this once the summer holidays are over and have already seen that I can get advances for around £35 to Glasgow - wouldn't mind a bit of help please with the best rangers/rovers to consider that would help me maximise my time there :)

Looking ahead to Scotland. Haymarket would be better than Waverley for seeing the Edinburgh trams as they pass Haymarket but you would need to walk along Princes Street from Waverley.

They might well pass near Haymarket, but positioning is key to get the numbers of the trams.

Nice work on the productivity at the local, and I concur on the heat recently. That was brutal  I don't think there's really any rangers in the Edinburgh area these days, which is a shame. I'm sure you already know about the footbridge at Haymarket, incredibly helpful and far superior to the one that was there in my spotting hayday! Waverley is a pain to spot at, such a maze of platforms. And that was before the new eastern bays!

Last time I was up in Scotland for consecutive days I found the Central Scotland Rover good value. Think it's 49 quid and covers the central belt.

There's no Edinburgh-based rover.

A return to Inverkeithing to get the two 68s in the book would be my ticket of choice.

You'll need to avoid Edinburgh during the Festival as accommodation would be a problem.

Enjoy your travels!

Firstly 10 winners on the local, good going but as I constantly say to you, as locals go, you've got a good un, where almost anything can rock up.

To future trips, If your doing the fife Circle, get the second cat on the 17.20 to Dunfermline Town, scamper across to the Notthbound platform and get the unit down to Inverkeithing for whatever was on the 17.08 back to Edinburgh.

For Glasgow a Roundabout ticket is excellent value
http://www.railrover.org/pages/strathclyde-roundabout.html
As palmersears says, if your making a few days of it, a Central Scotland Rover is also excellent value but obviously you have to counter in overnight accommodation.
If you go early enough you could do both Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Roundabout ticket is valid to Croy, so if an advance return Croy to Edinburgh can be sought, you can do both. However the Roundabouts not valid till 9. I would recommend Hyndland and a ride up to Whifflet, you'll pass Polmadie, change at Motherwell to ride up to Whifflet, at Motherwell, there may or may not be something if the DRS Persuasion parked up or depending on the time your there you may see the cats stabled, as the stock is serviced for the evenings fife turn in there, also you'll pass Mossend Yard on the way up to Whifflet.

Also if you do the Cats, on the Fife Turn, you have to have an anytime return to Dunfrrmline or Inverkeithing. Apparently you could get turned away if you have an Off Peak Return, I've always used an anytime return but I have had a ticket check on the Platform whilst awaiting for the 17.20. Worth bearing in mind.

I would avoid Edinburgh completely during festival season. Indeed even accommodation prices in Glasgow are inflated for its duration as well.

As an Edinburgh local, I would also suggest avoiding the city during August, but once September cones around things generally get back to normal.
The Central Scotland Rover is a great ticket. It covers you for all 4 routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Fife Circle, Borders railway, up to Dunblane, and the Strathclyde Electrics east of Partick. It does have to be 3 consecutive days mind, no option of 3 in 7 as it used to be.

*Still grumbles about the Edinburgh Days Out rover getting axed at the start of the year* (as that would have been handy for Edinburgh as the other rovers are the Central Scotland or the full fat Freedom of Scotland pass (or wherever its called these days).

Avoid Central Scotland in August is useful advice :)

Sounds like you have been keeping busy Mr Train :)

Hi folks, thanks for all of the replies re Scotland. Apologies for the late response, not been on here much lately but it is appreciated. Unfortunately it's on hiatus at the moment so I've been restricted to visits to the local so far this month and thought it time for a catch up......

On the 5th August a movement from Crewe to Burton caught my eye so I headed to the local to check it out. After a dud 88 and dud 90s had passed I readied myself for the move of interest to pass through and was disappointed when dud 66129 slid down the side of a Voyager only to be relieved to see a rake of car wagons behind it.......it wasn't the move I was waiting for
66129 by The_Train

It did come through fairly soon afterwards though and it was a worthy trip when 67029 passed by with a rake of Mk2s which had been used on a football special the previous day to transport Liverpool fans to and from Wembley
67029 by The_Train

I decided to hang around for a little while and was rewarded again when the Cliffe Vale empties came through hauled by winner 66034.
66034 by The_Train

Nothing else to report from this short outing with 70002 heading through to Basford Hall before I called it a day
70002 by The_Train

The following day tempted me back out thanks to a light loco move to Loughborough. Had to be something of interest surely?

I arrived at the station just in time to see dud 37218 lead a test train into P6. It was a handy thing to see as the coaching stock was required as was 37259 at the rear
Tractors at Stafford by The_Train

88008 came by before I was able to nab another OTM as DR77906 and DR73116 crawled through P1 after leaving the arrival sidings on route to Crewe
OTM action at Stafford by The_Train

After the usual plethora of dud units, the Loughborough move came by and it was a double winner as 66721 hauled 92032 to Leicestershire
66721 and 92032 by The_Train
92032 by The_Train

Again a decision to hang around was rewarded albeit with another winning track machine as dud DR98003 was hauled through Stafford by DR98011. Dud 90019 ran through light to Wembley shortly afterwards before dud 66756 brought my time on the platform to a close for another day.

It was Monday of this week before I returned as an Acton to Carnforth move and a Wembley to Polmadie move grabbed my attention. It was another winning OTM that got this jaunt off to a winner as DR98009 was now working the Crewe to Crewe run around with DR98003. 57314 and 57601 followed shortly after with a rake of WCRC coaching stock - unfortunately it was pathed on the fasts and had clear signals so if anyone can assist with the ID of the coaching stock it would be appreciated
57314 & 57601 by The_Train

The Wembley to Polmadie move hadn't yet left despite its departure time coming and going so I was becoming a bit nervy that it would be cancelled but, after a couple of dud sheds, 66194 took my mind off it as it became another DB shed to be chalked off. Shortly after this success I got to see another 350 in the famous 'ghost' LNWR livery as 104 paused in P1 with 350237 in tow
350104 by The_Train

Next shed to come by also proved to be a success and it was another DB one in the book, 66130 doing the honours this time
66130 by The_Train

A couple of dud FLR 66s went by before a very pleasant surprise on the GB Trafford Park to Felixstowe as 66705 edged me closer to completing the GB sheds - 9 now not including 791 (which I believe is at Immingham) and 792. By now the Polmadie working had left the capital over 60 late so I decided to hang around and this allowed me to spy the early evening Toton to Basford Hall working, which had been fairly bland since FLR took it off GB. However today was to be slightly different as 4 FLR locos were paused on the fasts with a rake of engineers wagons
FLR's Fab 4 by The_Train

Unfortunately each of 66565, 66598, 66568 and 66503 were duds but it was still a nice sight to see a convoy of locos. Whilst this was held on the fasts, I just caught sight of a 92 heading northbound into P1 which is a fairly rare move through Stafford and it turned out to be dud 92023 but it was hauling a rake of Mk2 and Mk3 CS coaches that were definitely required.....also gave me an excuse to use the record function on Spotlog for the first time.

Yesterday I had 90 minutes to kill so ventured back again but with nothing out of the ordinary on RTT I wasn't holding my breath and it was best I didn't. It was dud, dud, dud with the only positive being the chance to grab a pic of dud 70006 which was a requirement

That coaching stock you were after - reported on UKRailGen as:

57314 + Northern Belle 10729 10734 17167 325 3247 3275 3182 3267 1566 3273 3174 + 57601

You do live in a place with plenty of action. If it wasn't for WCRC tours Airedale would be rather dull!

Good to see you have been keeping busy Mr Train :)

Trying Kite. I'd like to be doing lots more but unfortunately funds just won't allow it. Looks like I've missed the boat with regards to Northern Pacers as some have already gone it would seem but I'm thinking of another Cheshire Day Ranger next to try and grab some more along with more of the Merseyrail stuff. I'd also like to get the Welsh pacers in the book but not sure I'll get round to that in time

There's a forum meet down in Cardiff on the 30th to get some Pacers in the day, and the 37s in the evening if you're interested...

I appreciate the offer but, as much as I'd be happy to meet plenty of the folk from this forum whilst out on the rails/platforms (particularly those I've got to know through this thread and other trip report threads), I'm not sure the actual forum meets are for me to be honest
