A lot of what you said could be applied to men too, as I said in my other post, stop pretending there's a difference in how men and women behave in these situations. They're just as anti social as the other.

The could be however nail varnish, shreaking and foul sexual language usually applies to hen parties.

They problems they cause on ships are even worse, the ships cells were always full of pissed up females unable to control themselves or act like adults. The tales I could tell you would be shocking....let me assure you.

Even the Celtic/Rangers football nonsense on the Irish Sea pales in comparison.

In my experience (particular on passenger ships) they are much worse.

And in my experience men shout and scream and curse just as much.

Having a hen party on a train is awful, no doubt about it, but if god forbid one of them talks to me I find they're far more light hearted and harmless (but still really bad).

Not only does a group of football or rugby fans send my anxiety through the roof, with their loud shouting, if one of them talks to me they bully and mock me and make me feel intimidated and insecure. People like them are why I didn't go outside much as a kid. I've genuinely considered getting off at an earlier station and waiting a whole hour for the next train to avoid them.

As something more relevant to the thread, I once had the misfortune of having a group of teenagers set off some stink bombs in a pacer. That was a pretty awful journey.

Generally, I think that this thread can be summed up by the phrase "Hell is other people".

Another difference being one set gets away with it under the guise of "it's only a bit of fun" the other set usually gets lifted for being a nuisance.

That's too much of a generalisation for me, I'm fed up of trying to explain how I feel on this kind of thing. When I'm comparing sports fans to hen nights, I'm not even referring to gender- men can be as obnoxious as women after a night out drinking, and women can be just as awful after a football match as the men. This is getting off topic anyway.

You've explained your position, that's your experience not mine, just accept others have different opinions.

I don’t feel so guilty about eating my hard boiled egg on a train this afternoon after all those other transgressions!

I ate it in three bites along with a slice of buttered bread. I don’t think anyone noticed  .

Can't stand the smell of eggs personally. At least you ate it quickly with minimal fuss.

Although I do love Fish and Chips, they really don't have any place on a train.

Curry is particularly bad. It should really be off the LNER menu. That's another thing, food served at seats should really be in an appropriate restaurant coach. Never gonna happen these days.

All this talk of hen parties - I'm going down to London on this Saturday morning's Grand Central service from Sunderland known as the 'hen party special'. Last time I did this run there were two hen parties and a girl's 21st birthday party in my coach. Seats and tables were left swimming in booze. Luckily they all get out at York, but new passengers get the wet seats.

The evening return trips are dry between York and Sunderland.

My experience is similar - maybe because I'm female and generally travel alone, I do find a group of drunk men far more intimidating than a group of drunk women. I don't dispute that hen parties can be messy, noisy, behave inappropriately. I hate having to travel near a hen party as in general their behaviour on trains is thoroughly antisocial but I've never felt personally threatened or scared by the experience. With drunk men, I feel far more anxious as I have experienced inappropriate comments and behaviour in the past (unwanted physical contact, sexual comments up to and including rape threats, suggestions that they'll follow me off the train, etc.). I'm fully aware that this is a minority of men (and maybe men have similar issues with crowds of drunk women). Just stating my personal experience.

More on-topic: this morning's commute is peaceful, quiet, and thus far free of food. I suspect that's about to change as Flapjack Man boards at the next stop... no issue with smell (of the man or the breakfast choice) but I can hear him chewing from the opposite end of the carriage :|

As a male who travels alone frequently I don’t find drunk people too intimidating. I just try to see the humour in it as they say things to me that they’d be mortified about if they knew what they were saying. :)
