I applied last September, got an email last week offering interview this Friday (24th) so expect to wait a bit longer i'm afraid to say.. having applied a few times now and failing an assessment centre early last year, a driver job seems to take forever to get! Patience is your friend :):)

I applied for a Train maintainer role last August, interviewed in November and still awaiting interview outcome.

I expect driver roles to take even longer.

Hi Richfoz84.

I've got my interview soon for the Driver role too!

I'm entirely new to this, and wondered if you had any advice for the interview? I've prepared answers to some competency questions that I might be asked, such as 'Tell me about a time when you've dealt with an emergency... XYZ' and I've swatted up on the TOC itself.

Is there anything else that you can recommend, or questions you think might be asked?

Cheers for any help, and good luck with yours!

As you’ve done, find out about the TOC and it’s history & the future ambitions.

Have lots of scenarios ready to answer.

Revert back to your application examples as ultimately they were good enough to get you an interview.

Good luck!

Wonder what impact this will have on training?

From what I was told at interview the only different staff will notice is the logo on their uniform.

Thanks Richfoz84!

I’m worried about not preparing an answer for a particular situation. Hopefully I won’t draw a blank on any of the interview questions... here’s hoping!

Interesting news about Northern Rail, as I was considering applying for any customer-facing roles in the rail industry generally, having been made redundant from a supermarket in Sept at age 49 since 2003 and having over 20 years retail/supermarket experience after moving to the U.K. from Ireland in 2002
