Morning everyone

First time using this forum.

Have a GWR TM assessment next week. Just wondering what questions they will ask at the interview. Also is anyone able to help with the ‘teamwork’ question.

I am currently Cardiff Central station based staff and have been for a few years now.

I’m not sure regarding stage 1 / 2

Been told assessment will consist of ticket checking & selling test with concentration test.

Interviews will be same day for whoever passes the tests

That seems strange to me as i thought stage 1 and stage 2 are done on seperate days as it takes them a while to mark the papers.. in any case stage 2 is group exercises followed by a competency based interview i believe. I myself have passed stage 1 and waiting for a interview for stage 2. Best of luck

I went for a Conductor role for GWR. But there were people applying for TM on the same assessments (1&2 over two separate days as Whatmydogsays said above).
The first assessment was just the concentration test with shapes, then reading text about rules and regulations and then answering questions and then the final part was ticket selling/checking.
A good few months later I was called back for stage 2. The first exercise was making a presentation on either safety or good service. We worked in groups of 3 on a flip chart. We then had to present to the panel. The second exercise was discussing in a group about why you would pick a certain product to sell at store.
If you are successful in those first two stages then you’d be asked to stay for the interview on the same day.
From what I’ve heard it will be competency based interview asking for examples when you have dealt with a difficult situation etc etc etc. Use the STAR technique and you should be fine.
I was not successful at getting to the interview, unfortunately.

Try this link: http://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/gwr-train-manager-assessment-day.140980/

This information really helped me prepare for the 2nd assessment day.

The first assessment day is all about accuracy and speed, in that order. As Neeny says, you will have the concentration tests, then ticket selling and rules comprehension and application (the rules are fictitious, don't worry about learning any). They email you on your way home with the result. I never got further than 75% through the concentration tests, accuracy is the thing with these. I didn't finish the ticket selling test either! Probably goes without saying, but if you do finish anything, use all the time available to check and recheck your answers.

Use and re-use any preparatory materials (mock tests etc.) they send you.

I hope this helps; it's definitely a job worth the effort. You'd have to kill me to get mine:)

They should have sent you practise material or a link to some with your invite.

here is the paragraph from my invite the last section is the agreement not to forward them so sorry I cant.

the materials are a "taster" of what to expect.

What can you expect?

We'll ask you to complete a range of tests and exercises designed to give us a better idea of your abilities. We will provide a full brief and materials on the day.

What tests will I take?

You will undertake a verbal test; a ticket selling & checking test; and, a test of concentration.

How should I prepare?

Attached are some practice materials for you. You must use these to prepare for your assessment and you will be asked on the day if you have received and used them.
By opening the attached documents (LICENSED 2017 - RAAT Practice Leaflet (sml); LICENSED 2017 - SCAAT Practice Leaflet (sml); LICENSED 2017 - TSCT Practice Leaflet (sml)), you have agreed not to copy or re-distribute the file electronically and if you decide to print the document that you will only print it once. The document remains the copyright of OPC Assessment Limited.

Sorry to hear that you didn’t get through Neeny

whatmydogsays - they sent the practice material in email containing the ticket checking & selling test & concentration just like Rob has stated. I then sent GWR Careers and in reply it states that Assessment will be 1st abd interview will follow on same day for those who pass.

I guess I’ll see on the day

I guess they may be doing everything the same day as I gather it’s only a small intake so presumably they have only invited a small number of applicants for assessment
