Is the bridge manned daily or only when it’s know river traffic will require its operation? Also because of tides overnight?
The Selby bridge was manned 24 hours when it was part of the ECML but don't know now. I don't think there is traffic all night on either bridge now to warrant three shifts but if the bridges are controlled from the cabins on the bridge they cannot be left open to river traffic as the controllers can't get on or off.

Does anybody know whats happened to the proposed Micklefield Turnback ?

I had a brief search and found nothing definite.
The line became too busy to add an all stations stopper to the line every 15 minutes. Secondly adding a reversing siding to an already complicated junction at Micklefield would be complicated and expensive. Thirdly, a station is now proposed at Thorpe Park near to the M1 and a 40,000 resident New Town in East Leeds connected by East Leeds Orbital Road (ELOR). It will have to wait until the route is quadrified from Leeds before it can be built due to capacity constraints.

Oh I don’t know; Reedham Swing Bridge is absolutely wonderful in spring / summer, even if you don’t have to swing it.

Whilst during the winter it would give someone plenty of time to spend on the rail forum, so all in all it doesn't sound too bad.

I rather fear we're beginning to go quite a bit off-topic here! As interesting (and amusing) as the recent discussion has been this thread is supposed to be about the Transpennine Route Upgrade and, sadly, for the time being that doesn't include significant works on the Hull branch (and certainly not the line via Goole!). So please could we try and focus back in on the project and its actual works?

If anyone does wish to continue a topic that's been discussed recently about swing bridges then are more than welcome to start a new thread. Perhaps quoting a post from this thread in their opening post.

Mod Edit (17/05): A new thread for speculation on what should happen east of Leeds can be found at https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/transpennine-upgrade-what-should-happen-east-of-leeds.204390/

Well I'm still assuming the Dore redoubling project is going ahead?
That will greatly improve capacity in the local area.

We'd like to think so, but with train numbers currently halved, and hardly anyone on them, the immediate pressure is off! Saw a Northern train from Piccadilly arrive at Dore last night, 2 got off and left only 2 aboard. One got off the following TPE, but I couldn't see if anyone else was still aboard. 3 cars in Dore car park yesterday which is a glimmer of recovery from the recent zero, but a long way short of the normal 200-250 that crowd around the station.

I'm getting some nice walks in the local area, some parallel with the line - social distancing observed of course. Even jogged a bit last night.

If anything, the pressure should be on to get as much done as possible while the railway is quiet. It should be an opportunity, not an excuse to delay important works.

Network Rail have not thought on similar lines, as in May 2020, two new stations at Kintore and at Horden Peterlee were due to be opened, but from information passed on to me, all such works have been put on hold. Whether the Covid-19 virus has been the driver behind such a decision was not made clear to me.

Absolutely it is, as with most large construction sites around the country.

Please be assured that NR has thought about doing more work at these difficult times, however there are three key challenge :

1) first and last trains are usually running at around the same times for key workers, so access to the line for major work is no easier. (And providing rail replacement services is not easy either in the current circumstances).
2) accelerating the work to be delivered now rather than, say, a few months time. Much detailed design is done fairly close to construction.
3) finding a way to do the work safely in the current circumstances, both in terms of availability of critical resource and social distancing measures.

There's been an exemption for projects deemed to be of national importance
Hence they still seem to be working on the Werrington diveunder, and HS2.

I believe some form of trackwork was undertaken at Hunmaby beween Seamer and Filey over the weekend.
Not quite on the same scale as HS2 etc.
I would not consider Hunmanby as being of National importance.

From what I've seen, the plans for Thorpe Park / East Leeds Parkway only shows two platforms rather than three. I am expecting it to be redrawn if the turnback plan is still going ahead however, how this will fit in with the TRU is anyones guess as Thorpe Park / ELP / whatever it'll be called (as the plans may end up changing) is suppose to open in 2023.

No exemption that I’m aware of. Instruction is still happening, and is restarting, once the contractors have worked out how to deploy social distancing.

Works on the Church Fenton-York stretch are imminent from what I understand, Network Rail have leased a hanger at Leeds East Airport and have been
busy getting equipment in that will service all six compounds on the route. All households in Church Fenton received a letter a couple of weeks ago with details of pending works.

Will the second phase go from Leeds, the garforth stations to church fenton please?
As yet there is no information forthcoming for the 2nd phase, the first phase stops short of Church Fenton station. The headache for Network rail is how to ease the curve to achieve much higher speeds which would also have to include raising the bridge at Church Fenton. The first phase is estimated will take around three years and there is a lot of talk about the transpennine upgrade using the HS2 route which will bypass Church Fenton and achieve line speeds without easing the curve. I know both parties are talking and when you consider that compulsory purchase is triggered on HS2 safe guarded land in 2023 for phase 2B, this would fit in nicely, especially when the first phase stops just about where HS2 will join existing tracks. This would also save an awful lot of work and disruption in Church Fenton where only four houses are required to be purchased to make way for the line, two of which are already empty having been paid out.

I can't remember if this link was ever posted on here, but NR have now added a section on their Transpennine Upgrade page pertaining to York - Church Fenton. https://www.networkrail.co.uk/runni...rade/york-to-church-fenton-improvement-scheme

The page also links to a stakeholder/local residents' leaflet, shown here: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-co...York-to-Church-Fenton-Information-leaflet.pdf

COVID-19 permitting, we should be starting to see new OLE structures going up this time next year.

There is still no confirmation of what scale or scope the Upgrade will take according to that article. Has that announcement been delayed by the pandemic?

Does anyone know if there's a compound set up near miles platting to finish of the wires to stalybridge and to remodel the junction.
Planning permission was granted on 29 Jan and exemptions to some conditions were granted on 27 and 29 April for renewal of the Queens Rd overbridge (to ease the curve at the junction) which includes setting up a permanent site compound. Which is at least a start.
The planning application is at

Probably finish the wires off when the bridge and junction is done.

There certainly is, 5-6 cabins and lots of cleared land. They have already r3moved the coping stones from the abutment and disconnected the old DNO LV electric feed
