Yeah that would make sense. The location would allow better access to the park from the Glasgow suburbs too, and of course is the name of the adjecent reservoir. However, the reasons for not using Auchenback, if correct, are pretty poor. That's the name of nearby neighbourhood in Barrhead. I'd rather the reasoning was the distance so that it wasn't wrongly giving the idea it was slap bang in the middle. Not using the name because Auchenback has a poor reputation is a terrible way of going about things. It's like when people wanted to rename Easterhouse in Glasgow.

Apologies if you have a fondness for Auchenback but I think it’s easy to see why you wouldn’t choose to name your new housing development after the area.

Positive side of it is that the new station will improve access to Auchenback and hopefully help reduce deprivation there.

No not at all - trust me from the things I hear about Barrhead-Neilston I have no fondness for any of it! And I realise there will be good parts and good people in thise places. I understand that part of Barrhead really doesn't have it's problems to seek. All this stuff about new names just strikes me as sweeping these issues under the carpet rather than dealing with them. You're right that the station may help matters - eg. residents there might be more inclined to seek out opportuities in Glasgow as it's a wee bit isolated as it is - and I didn't realise there was going to be a completely new development.

The areathere and at Patterton seems a bit like that around Croy - not long back there were only fields and developers are being attracted by rail and ease of access to Glasgow. Hopefully it serves as a lesson and stops the obsession with the car and motorway/dual carriageway links.

Just wondering what a 'pop up' station would look like and how it would work - or maybe it was deemed unworkable?

Is it not the case than when the new station opens, it will be as Horden Peterlee? The last date I heard was sometime in March 2020.

Also, can I ask if the site of the new station is well over half a mile away from the original station site of the now-closed Horden station?
Well its now March 2020. How is Horden progressing? Anyone know please.

Kintore was on schedule for May but I assume that no activity is taking place at present. Inverness Airport works haven't started AFAIK. Don't think it was ever expected this year.

Brierley Hill needs taking off the list, they are dead. Willenhall and Darlaston need adding for 2022 onwards.

Renton has been open since 1850! Is there a new station opening there?

Thanks Och Aye, well spotted. An error, hand up, wrist slapped. I am unable to edit posts under my current designation so I'll leave that until there is a more substantive update to this thread, and do it then.

The decision taken last month by the Network Rail board to halt/shut down all railway enhancement works on account of the Covid-19 virus outbreak will certainly put back the starting dates of both Kintore and of Horden Peterlee, that were originally scheduled to open in May 2020.

That comes as no surprise. Would the opening of these stations depend on the May timetable change happening? I'm thinking of when Worcestershire Parkway was delayed but there was effectively a 'placeholder' in the timetable that would allow stops there to be added in at a later date without substantial changes. If the timetable change doesn't happen then would the stations due to open in May be delayed to December?

When I first read the title of this thread I was expecting about a calendar with new stations on it. A bit like the infamous "Roundabouts of Reddich" some years ago. Sadly this is so much less trivial and useful than my brain can contrive

Just thinking, with the budget announcement of funding, should Cambridge South be added under "beyond 2022"?

London’s newest train station, Brent Cross West, has received final approval by Barnet Council’s planning committee.

Barnet Council held its first planning committee since the Covid-19 pandemic caused public committees to be temporarily suspended. Held virtually, committee members considered, and unanimously approved, the reserved matters application for the detailed design of the new Brent Cross West Station.

The approval of the design of the new £40 million, four platform Brent Cross West Station is another significant milestone in the delivery of the ambitious Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. The state-of-the-art station will be the gateway to Brent Cross South, the new neighborhood at the heart of the development. It will also provide new transport options for the communities already living in Brent Cross, reaching central London’s Kings Cross St Pancras Station in under 15 minutes.

The station will be built by VolkerFitzpatrick, one of the country’s leading station construction companies. VolkerFitzpatrick was awarded the contract to build the station in December 2019. Work to clear the site will begin in June with the main works to build the station due to start in January 2021 and be completed in 2022.
