Is is the percentage sign %
Is one to indicate a deceased person ?
Would that be the division sign - a dot either side of a straight line - is it to do with ratios as well ?

Correct. The Obelus in modern form is the † dagger sign, the ÷ division sign and the % percentage sign.

Since 444045 got two correct answers, I'll pass the teacher's chalk to him/her.

The Motel keys are yours

And the wobbly walls?

Now for buildings of a different nature. Whose ancestral seats are these:

  1. Arundel Castle, Sussex
  2. Maiden Bradley, Wiltshire
  3. Goodwood House, Sussex
  4. Euston Hall, Suffolk
  5. Badminton House, Gloucestershire
  6. Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire
  7. Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
  8. Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
  9. Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire
  10. Alnwick Castle, Northumberland
  11. Stratfield Saye House, Hampshire
  12. Eaton Hall, Cheshire

All are dukedoms.

Belvoir: Rutland (I have a family connection here -- forbears were tenants on the Belvoir estate).

Badminton: Beaufort?

Is Maiden Bradley the Duke of Wellington? I know he has Apsley House but think he has somewhere in the country too

He indeed has a country seat, but that is Stratfield Saye House, already answered above.

The last Duke I am looking for is named after a county.

Location
Up the creek
Mentally running through the the English counties and ignoring the royals, the only one I can think of is Somerset, but nobility is not one of my subjects.

It is indeed.

With 5 right answers out of the 12 seats, I declare SteveM70 as Lord of the Manor and invite him to take the floor.

Blimey, Lord of the Manor

In addition to Midge Ure, who co-wrote the song, played keyboards, and did most of the programming, three musicians played on the original Band Aid record in 1984. Who were they?

How about Phil Collins? Bob Geldof can play guitar, so was he one of the three?

How about Sting or Trevor Horn ?

Neither of those, though (I think) Trevor Horn was mooted as a potential producer but then couldn’t because of other commitments or something

Clue: the two people you’re looking for are a guitarist and a bass player, and they were in the same group
