Have applied and now been called for a video interview. I’m assuming it’s a competency based interview. They have given me 3 days until I have to take so best start thinking of some decent answers!
congrats. what sort of questions ?Just got an email today to complete a video interview, 3 days to do so... Looks like I'll have a busy weekend.

Haven’t sat it yet, but reading through here and online, it’s likely to be competency based. I assuming they anyway!congrats. what sort of questions ?

And if that's the best advice you have to offer, perhaps you should keep it to yourself. Being prepared isn't cheating, it's common sense. You wouldn't take a driving test without preparation, would you? Your instructor would show you likely test routes, sample questions and practice reverse parking and emergency stops - is that cheating? I can only presume you're trying to encourage others to withdraw to make it easier for you progressTo the people asking for the questions... if you have to ask, you're probably not suited for the role.
This is a role of crucial public safety and if you need to cheat the application process then it would be my best advice for you to withdraw now.

I didn't say they were asking for advice. You are offering advice (as you clearly state in your post) which is that they should withdraw their application, advice that is neither neither helpful or welcome.People are asking for the questions, not for advice.
If someone could not pass an assessment without requiring prior knowledge they are not suited for the role. This is more important when public safety is involved.I didn't say they were asking for advice. for all those that didn’t get through, don’t be too disheartened, my friend told me he knows another driver for another TOC who also failed at round three
Yes, not a mainline driver more of a shunter but wants to get onto mainline driving apparently? You’ll probably know better than me but he was advised to go through this door to get him onto the mainline?A Qualified driver???
Ha, no worries mate, I can see why you thought that, which qualified driver in their right mind would go through all that again! Also I may be slightly misleading with the TOC bit, would’ve presumed if he’s a shunter it would be Network Rail he works for although I may be wrong of courseNo problem. Makes sense, was not sure i read that information right lol.
Cheers
If it’s a situational judgment type test, it’s not necessarily that you did anything that wrong. It’s simply how they’re graded most of the time, and the lower grades don’t pass that part. For example, f you scored a B amongst a load of others who scored an A, you’d not pass that part. If you scored a C and there were far fewer As and Bs, you probably would pass. They may also program in the grades they want to pass, so all As and Bs get through. That’s just a couple of methods. How on earth do you pass the first test? I have given the most safety driven answers and I cannot pass. I have worked as a health and safety rep and can't understand where I'm going wrong. Could anybody point me on the right direction where to study up and prepare for this kind of assessment? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot Stigy for taking the time to respond and share some insightful advice on how the grading works. It's good there are people willing to share a little knowledge to help others without coming across as demeaning and rude.If it’s a situational judgment type test, it’s not necessarily that you did anything that wrong. It’s another easy way to sift people out by computer.
I failed to get beyond this stage too. I am not getting too disheartened as I don’t see how a verbal reasoning test has any bearing on whether you would make a good safe driver. It is merely a way of sifting a lot of applicants out. It could be an algebra test and that would serve the same purpose. Most other TOCS won’t have anything like that so will continue to look elsewhere.Hi All, I’ve also tried to get through to the teams interview but unfortunately I’ve struggled on the last assessment ( round three ) so ill not be going any further unfortunately
So, the first two assessment rounds were super easy and I didn’t struggle, they were as follows;
Round 1- Situational knowledge - really easy, scenarios based on what you would do if you were in that position, always chose safety and common sense for these, also getting the train away on time is critical so there’s a question regarding that
Round 2 - Shipping Consignment Details - five pieces of information outlining shipping details of a container, you have to compare the consignment you have to the five examples that they give you, pick the right one but identify the parts that are wrong, bit like a group bourden test in my opinion as it requires speed and accuracy, I answered 35 in the time allowed and got straight through to my stumbling block
Round 3 - Watson Glazer testing - I had a right hassle with these, you’ll get a passage of information and you have to decide based on the questions given if the information is True, False or Cannot tell, really tricky this one as they’re trying to trip you up, think it was 10 questions in 25 mins so not sure if they were looking for speed again on this one? This is where it failed for me although rather annoyingly I got past this the last time and had an interview with a HR chap who didn’t actually work for LNER which was bloody infuriating
I’ve asked my friend who is a driver for LNER for feedback on round three to see exactly what they’re looking for - accuracy or speed, also I’ll be more well
Informed for the interview if I get there again
for all those that didn’t get through, don’t be too disheartened, my friend told me he knows another driver for another TOC who also failed at round three, in my opinion that round is a load of rubbish as your perception to those answers could differ from how LNER look at it, I asked my friend who’s in Law regarding those ( as they use those questions for their training ) and he told me it’s totally perception and that’s it, so bloody annoyed I didn’t get through but I’ll have another go next time but I’ll be fully prepared for the Watson Glazer round
Good luck to all of you who got through to the interview stage, I know exactly what you’ll be asked but make sure you’re fully prepared for H&S style scenarios and situational scenarios too, also a bit of passion won’t go a miss
I realised too late that I'd have been better off doing this on a laptop rather than my mobile phone. Spotting the mistakes in the second set of tests would have been easier if the type was larger, like noticing that a 2 had been replaced with a ZHi All, I’ve also tried to get through to the teams interview but unfortunately I’ve struggled on the last assessment ( round three ) so ill not be going any further unfortunately

12 paragraphs with 4 questions each and 25 minutes to complete. Around 2 minutes a scenario basically, some are easier than others Answers are True, False or Cannot Tell.Hi everyone..... has anyone got any advice for stage 3? (I've heard it's the Watson Glazer testing assessment, I've already done the situational and shipping consignment assignments).
Good luck. I’m preparing now with the plan to do the interview tomorrow when the kids are outGot a video interview to do as well. Expecting the standard set of competency-based questions but the whole talking to myself without another person there is what seems really weird!
I think it was about 90 minutes after I completed the error checking that i got the email to ask me to complete the verbal reasoning test.I have just recently completed the error checking assessment. How long do you have to wait before you get told if you have passed and can move onto the next stage. I received an email straight away when I completed the first assessment telling me I can move onto the next stage of the assessment process which was the error checking.
Thanks
