You’ll initially do onboarding such as paperwork, probably have to sit in on a safety brief and generally get the inside track on your allocated SB before school.

Anyone know the notice period for a signaller? Undecided as of yet, but potentially thinking of a change.

Believe it’s 12 weeks. Is there anything in particular that’s got you considering leaving?

It's 4 weeks for the employee to give notice to leave. For the employer to give notice it's a stepped scale between no notice, and 12 weeks depending on length of service.

Do Network Rail make you sign anything at the start of training related to the reimbursement of training costs should you leave employment within a certain timeframe?

No they don't. I think TOCs do it mainly to stop you jumping ship to a rival after you've passed out

There’s no market for signallers like drivers so generally once your qualified you generally either stay in the grade or at least company - hence no pay back clause should you leave within say 12 or 24 months.

Interestingly when we talk about market for signallers once is in its very early stages in South Wales. With Transport for Wales taking over signalling operations on its Core Valley Lines operation north of Cardiff. Certainly among lower grade staff 2/3/4 there is an attraction to moving across, still plenty of those grade boxes about in South Wales.

No no email with local vacancies I've been told I can't apply for anything until I start. Gainsborough was offered up to apply for but I asked around and it doesn't seem a popular box so I didn't bother. I guess I'll see you tomorrow!

Hi all,

I’ve been a viewer of the forum and specifically this thread for a while. Like several other members, I’m currently in the process of applying for signalling roles but I keep receiving the dreaded rejection email.

I've revised my CV and applications several times but to no avail. I’m just not making it past the first sift, despite having (what I believe ) decent transferable skills and reading this forum daily. I’m as determined as ever to get my foot in the door and thought I would ask here for some advice.

I have been self-employed for the past 12 years, and being in my early 30’s, I’ve not got that much experience outside of running my own business. I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice they could offer or if a previously successful applicant could take a look at one of my rejected applications?

Any advice at all would be most appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi mate, I’m in the same position as you, applied for a few vacancies, sometimes I get through to the testing process, and some I’ve not even been invited to test, it’s very frustrating! Sometimes you just have to accept that there’s better candidates out there! All you can do is keep working on your application, cv, and just keep plugging away.

Hello all,

How do those working 12 hours shifts cope with starting a stint of lates? For example if you're off Monday-Wednesday and wake up Thursday with a 6pm/7pm start in the evening? Are you able to nap before the shift or do you just power through? I just find it a concerning I might find myself in a situation where I've been awake for 20+ hours.

Hi,

Has anybody recently been successful in the recruitment process that was an internal candidate? Could do with something clearing up in regards to pay during training.

Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a tricky situation. I got the role which I am so happy about its my dream job. But I've just found out I'm pregnant. By the time training starts I will be about 5 months pregnant. I don't know what to do, I'm worried I will no longer have the job once I've disclosed this. Any advice or details or maternity policy. Much appreciated.
