Hi all I’m very new to the forum, I’m a 38 year old carpenter I own my own business with 7 employees and I’m looking for a change to be honest, I’ve run a business for 7 years and I’m fed up with what the building trade has changed into, not the same as it was just full of subcontractors who don’t give a ****! Im good at dealing with stress and spend my days supervising others, do you think my skill set is something I could turn to a train driver role? And what advice can you give me to help me?

I too was a joiner, a working supervisor as well, up until 3 weeks ago mate. I’m currently on a course as a trainee junior driver.

You’ve definitely got the skill set to become a driver, sign up to every TOC/FOC in your area and apply as soon as the roles come up, good luck!

Any heads up of kind of things they asked at dmi. Thanks
I applied internal for DB jnr driver, passed psychometric test, had the DMI start of feb but found out last week i havent got the job. Ask safety related questions which challenging collegues, times where you had to go out your way for the company to achieve goals etc. Luck of the draw, for now ill fix locos as normal

I’ve got an mmi next week. I’ve already passed the dmi and passed psychometric testing with another TOC. I’ve looked all over the forum for these questions but I can’t find them anywhere. I remember writing some questions down before, but for the life of me I can’t remember them. Any help would be massively appreciated

use the search function at the top of the page. Mmi questions discussed hundreds of times. Loads of stuff to go through.

Thanks, I’ve used it and people keep quoting these 6 questions.
So if you have the questions then you need to formulate your answers to them. And once you have the answers, know them well as you will be probed further about them. Like I say it’s all been mentioned before.

It’s ok someone’s sent them over. It’s the same ones they asked at my DMI. What I meant was people say the six questions but don’t actually write them. Thanks though.

I waited about 3 months for my medical, and some people waited considerably longer. But there’s no harm in chasing it up with your HR contact

I applied 13/05/21 for junior driver east mids and south Yorkshire hubs

I progressed from the online stage 09/08/21

Got invited to assessment day 20/08/21

I had my assessment day 06/09/21 in Doncaster

Got invited to DMI 09/09/21

I had my DMI 14/09/21 in Doncaster

Found out I had passed DMI and had been placed in both east mids & South Yorkshire talent pool 24/09/21

Got invited for medical 20/10/21

Medical date confirmation from occupational health 25/10/21

I passed my medical 19/11/21 in Birmingham

Still no start date as of yet, hope these time scales help those still in the process, it’s creeping up to a year in the process for me personally and can’t wait to start if the day ever comes.
Hi just wondering what to expect at the assessment centre I'm kinda over thinking everything

The day usually consists of some paperwork then written tests, computer tests and Multi modal interview, from memory I think they consist of trainability for rules & procedures part 1 & 2, group Bourdon test, vigilance test, two hand coordination test, situational judgement test, seem to remember a dials test, and one with audio tones and phone book search where you do them separately then both together, they’ll send you practice material and there’s lots of things online to help

If you have been invited to Assessment then they will have added a large document to the email which is the industry standard document that everyone gets, explaining all the separate parts to the tests. DB do the whole lot in a day unlike some other operators, good in some ways, bad in others, but at least you have the chance to get it over and done with in a oner. For any further info, of which there is loads, use the search function at the top of the page. Type in Psychometric Tests, or Group Bourdon, or Dots, or TRP etc etc.. so much info on the site, it just takes a fair bit of your time to research it and make the necessary notes. Plenty of people have passed with just the info sent via email though, so don’t worry too much (I know I did though!). Good luck

Afternoon all - Im currently going through the application process for trainee driver for the Peak Forest location, I attended and passed the assessment centre (Stage 1, Stage 2 + MMI) a few weeks ago and was told to keep an eye out on my emails for the invite to the management interview but as of yet I haven't heard anything.

Is anyone else in a similar position? I'm using the time to practice interview Q's and get some more in depth knowledge about the company itself.

You should hear something soon for that I’d imagine

Best news ever today. Got my start date for Peak Forest on June. Have to say it was a quick deal as applied 15th Feb 22 and 4 months later starting. I know a lot of you have had a long wait and some still waiting. I feel very fortunate indeed. Best of luck to anyone waiting to hear or who have applied recently. Any questions please feel free to shout out.

Anyone on here starting in June
