I hope this is permitted. Can we have a master thread where people just post updates on what's happening regarding potential strike action? For example, RMT meeting to discuss xxxxx today, progress/no progress at discussions, members at xxxx being balloted on xxxx, confirmed strike date for xxxxx, revised timetable for xxxx services etc. without posts criticising the union, government, operators, or management. I think it would be useful for worried passengers, without them having to scroll through pages of posts to find the information they need.

I agree. It’s difficult trying to wade through pages upon pages of arguments just to find genuine updates! It might be worth having the comments turned off on this one so that only updates can be provided as and when

Have they even been talking to Network Rail yet, you think Network Rail would be wanting to get it sorted as quickly as possible. No talks, no updates.

At the moment I'm only aware of actual strike action as follows:

London Underground Monday 6 June
TransPennine Express Saturday 4 June & Sunday 5 June

Action short of a strike taking place in various places including London Underground and ScotRail.

Anything further please feel free add.

While not a strike (yet), TSSA have announced that they are going to ballot their Network Rail members due to a breakdown of talks with NR

https://www.tssa.org.uk/find-your-c...y-and-job-security-dispute-update-30-may-2022

Network Rail have not made satisfactory assurances regarding job security or pay, despite a series of National Level 2 Avoidance of Dispute meetings with the company in the last few days.

We have, therefore, concluded the National Level 2 Avoidance of Dispute procedure and are moving to an industrial action ballot of our members.

They have been talking to NR for ages, you just don't hear about it due to confidentiality or there being nothing to say.

Is there actually any point talking to NR given that DfT (or maybe even the Treasury) will probably veto it, surely for the sake of all sides the RMT needs to talk to the person(s) directly holding the purse strings because I doubt its NR.

I’m not sure on what basis the union would negotiate pay and conditions with a party that isn’t the employer? It’s only the employer they can be in dispute with.

There's nothing to stop DfT staff from attending the negotiations if this is by mutual agreement. Not that it necccesarily means that anything would come of it.

DfT don’t hold the purse strings, and I’m fairly sure the person that does has plenty of other things to do!

i imagine DfT are too busy making the bullets for NR to fire at the employees. Can't imagine DfT wanting to talk credibly.

I saw Mick Lynch on Sophy Ridge on Sunday. He spoke considerably more sense than RMT have in the past, and I think he demolished some of Sophy's assertions pretty fundamentally.

We can’t see this as ending up being anything other than a continuation of the previous thread on industrial action. Any news on disruption as and when will be available via Network Rail and the media so rather than us trying to police this thread we’re going to lock it for now.

Thanks all.

Update from the RMT:

RMT has today agreed to continue discussions.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "Since the ballot results on 24th May, discussions have been taking place at industry-wide level under the auspices of the Rail Industry Recovery Group (RIRG) to create a framework and structure for negotiations on all issues in the dispute.

"RMT has today agreed to continue these discussions in order to create a framework for negotiations on all aspects of the dispute.

"The matter will be considered again by the RMT NEC on Tuesday 7th June, when we will consider how to develop our campaign including the issue of setting dates for phases of industrial action.

"Our participation in the proposed discussions does not mean RMT has reached agreement with any of the train operating companies, Network Rail or with the Government’s current proposals.

"The union has the same position as it always has - to seek job security with a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies; that any changes to structures, working practices, or conditions have to be agreed with our union, not imposed; and that our members deserve a negotiated pay increase that addresses the rising cost of living.

"RMT will continue to make active preparations for a sustained campaign of industrial action while discussions continue."
