How many of the major Ministerial posts above are still to be filled?
These appointments were made yesterday:
  • Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP to be Chancellor of the Exchequer
  • Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP to be Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
  • Rt Hon Michelle Donelan MP to be Secretary of State for Education
Rest of ministers/PPS are vacant.

Despite some reports, Michael Gove hasn't yet signalled continued support and had an unexplained absence from the Commons.

Yes reports Gove along with some of his ministerial supporters are weighing going en masse to PM to tell him to resign, but hes having cold feet as when he did the same to Cameron he scuppered both his and Boris election chances and May won.

Also reported the 1922 committee are having a pre-meeting at 4pm ahead of their scheduled 5pm meeting on rule changes, they will be discussing the potential rule changes but also the option of going directly to Johnson and telling him to resign ahead of the 5pm meeting.

"Does the Prime Minister think there are any circumstance in which he should resign?"

Question, not coming from the Labour or SNP benches, but the Conservative member for East Worthing.

Worthing, of course, being not quite the safe Tory territory it used to be. Not sure if the East or the West is the most Tory bit, relatively speaking, though.

(As an aside, it's strange that the names of the constituencies are also the names of the non-central stations too!)

Number of resignations now upto 21

Since lunchtime, three more Parliamentary Private Secretaries - David Johnson, Claire Coutinho and Selaine Saxby - are reported to have left their roles.

Well, just two hours to wait for this 4pm pre-meeting to go.

There is always a fine line between hanging on too long and jumping too early, but being the first one to show disloyalty is not a good starting point for taking over. Let someone else make the first active move and then follow with ‘a heavy heart’, but with the intention of shoving everybody else out of the way once things get going. “Et tu, Govey.”

Barclay is also still Downing Street Chief of Staff - difficult to know how he can hold down both jobs.

Worthing, of course, being not quite the safe Tory territory it used to be. Not sure if the East or the West is the most Tory bit, relatively speaking, though.
Bottomley in Worthing West has got the bigger majority - about twice that of Worthing East and Shoreham. The current composition of Worthing Council is Conservative - 13, Labour - 23, LibDem - 1, the leader of the council is pretty dynamic. Loughton has got every reason to be worried, majority of just over 7000 over Labour, but there was a Momentum supported Independent, who didn't campaign but still featured on the ballot paper. .

So add
- Kemi Badenoch
- Neil O'Brien
- Alex Burghart
- Lee Rowley
- Julia Lopez

EDIT *and* Mims Davies
Burghart was another at Education. There are two left - the newly installed Donelan and the unpaid Baroness Barran. Good news for Zahawi - the ministerial payroll has shrunk significantly in the last 24 hours.

Just imagining Jeremy Hunt sitting there with a glass of whisky & a giant smirk on his face while he prepares his leadership bid. I reckon Gove might well resign now after Sky broke the story that Boris didn't go.

Mims Davies is my local MP & very active on social media. She's trumpeting that she's resigned because the party needs a "fresh start". Lots of local constituents pointing out to her she wholeheartedly voted to support BoJit in the confidence vote such a short time ago.

Duncan Baker has now also quit.

Even Johnson's supporters are now talking about when rather than if.

Meanwhile, resignations coming in thick and fast still. I've just seen two more in the last few minutes (Mark Logan and Rachael MacLean). There's no way he will be able to replace them all now, unless we have Fabricant in 10 positions (God forbid).

Edit: The post above has even more listed!

I wonder also why Ms Davies moved from Eastleigh. Too marginal, I guess?

In two and a half years Boris has now had two more resignations than Tony Blair had in 10 years.
BBC is struggling to keep up!

I imagine you mean 'Gove'. He needs to be careful as I bet he must think he is in with a chance, if not as King then as Kingmaker. It hasn't been forgotten that he has stabbed (figuratively) Johnson once already.

Edit: I've just noticed this is the 100th post on this thread today!

Huw Merriman has sent a letter of no confidence while sat opposite the PM in the Liaison Committee.

Although he's sending it to the 1992 committee rather than the 1922 committee according to his letter!
