Makes me wonder, at what forecast temperature will Network Rail and/or TOCs start similar ‘exceptional temperature’ measures after these two days?To be fair from tomorrow the temperature is meant to drop significantly (down to 27C, which is still relatively warm!) and some parts of the country will see the heat-related downpours or decrease in temperature earlier then others.
Get to Sheffield in time for a much delayed Sheffield-London, and after a crew finally shows up the driver refuses to take it as the train has been sitting in the sun for a while and the cab is apparently too hot.
Sounds like a sensible decision to me. You’re lucky it was a Derby man who signed via Beighton…
Yes - terminating at Ely due to OHL issues Waterbeach.Managed to hold out yesterday without a single cancellation And it is the only thing running today through Ely, too. Will probably all fall over now that I've mentioned it but impressive either way.

Hahaha… Sounds like a right militant to me who was happy to lean on the rule book to keep himself cool wat the expense of the passengers - you know, those people who actually pay for the railway - who were left standing on a sweltering platform with not much shade, no breeze, and no air conditioning, wondering when the next train might run.
The fans are going ten to the dozen on the poor things but they are like a fridge inside. The relief on peoples faces as they walk onboard is a joy to see.Managed to hold out yesterday without a single cancellation And it is the only thing running today through Ely, too. I’m surprised it took this long.Avanti now withdrawing all services for the rest of the day.
Happens a few times each season & not surprising when you see some of the idiots navigating the Broads. All clear & Wherry Line to Lowestoft reopened.Bridge bash by a boat at Somerleyton, Norwich - Lowestoft suspended.
You can't even open the cab window on a 222. We've had drivers collapse at the controls of their trains with heatstroke before, that's not great service either.Hahaha… Sounds like a right militant to me who was happy to lean on the rule book to keep himself cool wat the expense of the passengers - you know, those people who actually pay for the railway - who were left standing on a sweltering platform with not much shade, no breeze, and no air conditioning, wondering when the next train might run.

Drivers shouldn't be taking such services in this heat. You can't even open the cab window on a 222. We've had drivers collapse at the controls of their trains with heatstroke before, that's not great service either.

Ecml blocked Newcastle to Edinburgh, 1S93 Lumo has wires down around it just north of Manors station and no power or air on.
People started self evacuating and now passengers are being transferred to Northern’s 2N21.
Now reached Carlisle (15.57) and terminated there. Passengers being bussed to Glasgow?1S48 has been a few miles south of Carlisle for about 2 and a bit hours now
To update wires not down, OHL has tripped on that like but won’t reset. Customers evacuated to another train.I thought the Lumo sets had batteries so HVAC could be maintained? What went wrong there I wonder?
Three Bridges ASC was being evacuated due to a cable drum fire next to the building, but it seems to be under control now.Not seen it mentioned here but a line side fire is affecting London Victoria services on the Brighton mainline. I don't know where the fire is.
Well that's a stupid post if I ever heard one. What would you say if he took the train and then had an accident because the heat was affecting him. What if the heat made him ill? Driver's (or any staff) are not robots and can be affected by heat like anyone else.
I think Avanti are still trying to salvage something from the day. 9Z70 16:35 Preston - Edinburgh now heading north.Avanti have suspended all services for the remainder of the evening. From what it looks like it’s a mixture to all the line closures and crew being displaced. I can imagine quite a lot of trains were sat waiting for staff
1047 Liverpool to Euston trapped between Cheddington and Tring has now moved forward passed Tring. Stuck since just after 1 now 4 1/2 hours late but at least moving1M08 0737 Glasgow C-Euston, which was already 55 mins late, has been standing between Apsley and Kings Langley since around 1315, according to RTT and Open Train Times.
Well I certainly hope there is a rule book with limits not just on temperature ( high & low ) but also carbon monoxide , carbon dioxide , Ozone , humidity , ventilation ( air change rate ) to name a few - with sensors in place and alerts to warn . Only the driver knows if the complaint was genuine or not .Well that's a stupid post if I ever heard one. Now sitting in platform 7 at Watford Junction as 5M08 having been terminated there.1M08 0737 Glasgow C-Euston, which was already 55 mins late, has been standing between Apsley and Kings Langley since around 1315, according to RTT and Open Train Times.
