That's it for another four years :(

Had the chances and missed the penalty.

Will be supporting France now as the last team from Western Europe.

What on earth have they got 3 women on the pitch talking about this for :?:

Why do you have a problem with female sports commentators?

I think that’s actually what Darlo is getting at and it’s a fair point.

We lost. We weren’t robbed but we were probably a bit unlucky and it was closer than I thought it’d be. Southgate out? No! We’re nearly there and that’s because we deserve to be because of what he’s turned this team into. Go back ten years and remember how awful we were?
Absolutely - I don't want Southgate to quit. We have a decent team and we are nearly there. We had the chance to get there tonight. I am sure the usual crew will be out demanding a new manager mind.

I prefer male commentators for male football matches, but the three in question were pundits ?

I have always liked Gabby Logan and Hazel Irvine on BBC as "anchor women", but feel they have gone from 0-60 too quickly with the introduction of female pundits on male matches.

Probably a generational thing.

First African side to make the semi-finals.
Ronaldo having a tantrum and storming down the tunnel was golden!
So far there has been justice in ensuring most cheats and/or arrogant folk don't prosper, we saw this with Brazil getting knocked out yesterday and now Portugal, with extra focus on Ronaldo. Piers Morgan might have to pull his head out of Ronaldo's rear end now.

Women have as much of a right to talk about mens' football (and any other sport) as men.

I don't watch football, but there are female pundits and commentators in rugby union who are very good.

At least, as DarloRich pointed out, the womens' football team has actually won something recently.

Your opinion isn't just a generational thing.

It is blatantly sexist.

I’m not a massive football person generally but have enjoyed watching the World Cup matches, especially Friday night and tonight

But at the end of the day it’s just a game and people will have moved on to thinking about other things like Christmas by next week ;)

To be fair they have never played at a level anywhere near the first tier of even English mens semi Professional football. Can you imagine the uproar if Edgware Town's manager was allowed to pass comment or Brockenhurst's striker was allowed on the box?

As for England.... same old. Were not able to press home the advantage when the window of opportunity presented itself. We just don't know how to win the big moments in games against the best. It's sadly become institutionalised into our mindset.

There is nothing to be fair about such a sexist viewpoint.

The level a female pundit/commentator has played at does not affect their ability to commentate, or right to have an opinion, on mens' football.

It's 2022 for goodness sake.

I don't really care what the football pundit's gender is as long as they don't spout the same tiresome load of cliches as we usually get.

Glad someone pointed it out. I would've but didn't want to be slaughtered by everyone else on here.

Your final sentence is laughable, how is the year relevant "for goodness sake"?

Nothing sexist about it, it's a perfectly valid opinion and one shared by a lot of people including my wife.

For me I’m more than happy to see him in charge for another tournament and then look at things after that depending on how we’re doing. Tonight was disappointing but we shouldn’t overreact.
I’m not that familiar with football, but the impression I got from watching the match yesterday is that this England team have the technical skill to win a major tournament but do not yet have the belief that they can win one. This is probably due to decades of England underperforming. France and other major European teams do not seem to have this baggage.

What's always apparent is the club bias on show when passing judgement of England performances. Not so much on here but other mediums.

Just for reference, Gerrard, Lampard and Cole, all part of that 'golden generation' missed penalties when it really mattered.

At least Southgate will be able to commiserate properly with Kane over missing a crucial penalty in a major competition. Do Pizza Hut need a new advert?

I find the excuses made to justify such a ludicrous opinion laughable.

The year is relevant because I thought we'd moved on as a society. Clearly a small minority hasn't.

We should be encouraging more women to be involved in sport as much as possible.

It absolutely is sexist to say someone should not partake in something because of their gender.

This is even more laughable, you obviously want women pundits as some sort of box ticking exercise. How about they stick to the women's game and male pundits stick to the men's game? It's not sexist it's just common sense.
