I’m sure they asked me to do three tests once and then they sent me the RAAT test again? Anyone else?? Also for other rail vacancies it said there is a final interview. How many more stages after this? I’m hoping the start date is Jan.

Hey everyone, about 3 months ago I failed the psycometric tests with southeastern at there assesment centre, I saw this role come up and applied in the hope the process may take up to six months before those tests again, obviously it hasnt, I have recieved the email to complete the RAAT tests online, I thought when I gave them my N.I details I would have been rejected as they would have seen on the database I have failed within 6months.

what's peoples thoughts on this any insight?

I don't know how they progress applications and at what point they look at RSSB database to check prior psychometric results? I'd guess at some point they will find out.

For now, I'd run with the application, go as far as you can and see what happens. The onus is on XC to do DD on each application. Anyone asks, you applied in good faith

Yeh I don't want to seem to be sneaky and also its a bit silly to turn up to the assessment centre for them to check and be like oh you cant be here. I know I've applied for a few bits including freightliner and at the N.I stage they refused my application as they saw I had failed 3months ago so assumed most TOCS check hence why they ask for it at this early stage. I'm hoping its a slow process and maybe the 6months elapses if I reach back to assessment centre

My thoughts exactly. It's been rapid progress to date, but who knows how long the testing is going to take???? You never know, like you said, time psychometrics come around, you might be past the 6 month stage by then.

I doubt very much you'll be turned away at the door, so to speak, on the day. If they're going to reject your application, you'd be forgiven for thinking that would happen before invite to classroom tests

Good luck

Hi everyone! Hope you all had lovely Christmas.

I’m just wondering if the RAAT test from XC/OPC is now a proper railway/safety related test (as it should be) or are they still sending out a test based on irrelevant subjects?

I am not going to say what the question were or what they ask. As this would jeopardise my application but they give you some railway information. Then you have to answer 4 questions about the information you have just read. Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply Stccpins.

I’m not actually in for this, as I started my career on 08s many many moons ago.

It was just something I was curious about, as I understand LNER were also firing out a similar unrelated RAAT test a while back.

I wish you the very best with your application, and if I can be of any help, please feel free to contact me.

Just received the same Email - in which case I'm wondering if they'll be collating both RAAT results and cover letters to determine whether to invite to DMI.

Hope everyone's had a great Xmas!

Just received the email as well. I don’t remember uploading a cover letter? I think the RAAT went well. Do you think I’ve got a good chance. I believe there’s a sifting stage. I’ve got sales experience I don’t know how my chances are?

Had same email. I wonder if there is anyone that applied but didn’t get asked to do the RAAT??

I’m guessing they’ve already done a round of sifting based on CV & covering letter

Have also had an email for both applications and haven't completed the RAAT yet, so likely it is for all who have been invited to do the RAAT. Sounds like there is a fair number though.

Got an email saying they need two weeks to process applications.
Perhaps they did just sent everyone an assessment and haven't looked at anyone's application yet

There are numerous courses running during 2023, same as there was in 2022. First course is February and then staggered start dates between feb and June.

XC invite to interview (DMI) the ones who have scored highest on the RAAT test. They then send to OPC the highest scorers from the interview.

How many drivers will XC take on per depots which was recently advertised but also are the courses expected to start in June for all these depots?

They have an allocation of trainees for each location that was advertised for. Some depots have a higher allocation than others.

The courses are generally a mixture of trainees from different depots. 8 people on each course.

The initial allocations and dates that were made available on the aslef minutes are subject to change, so I can’t tell you exact course dates or numbers allocated for depots.

Birmingham does have the largest allocation though.

Question for people who’ve done the RAAT, when selecting your answer is the passage to the question still visible? Or am I to use the powers of memory?

Just done them mate.

all multiple choice.

1. was situation reasoning, mark 2 answers you would class most relevant and least likely.

2. concentration test finding errors in information 50 question in 20 minutes i think.

3. verbal reasoning from a passage unrelated to rail / technical. 12 questions, changing after 3/4 questions.

so I filled out my application then gave me these tests to do straight after. complete within 3 days.

Can I ask how people have been notified of the RAAT test. I applied on the 8th and got the email yesterday stating the 2 week extension.

I as of yet have had no link or email for the RAAT when applied just the confirmation email.
