Hi all,
I have booked an advance ticket with London Bridge as the specified intermediate station for subsequent connection to Paddington via underground services. Since I am travelling with luggage and the tube journey from London Bridge requires multiple connections, it would be better for me to change at Charing Cross and get a direct tube. Charing Cross is the next station after LB on my booked train and as I’ll be going to the same place (Paddington), can I change here instead? Will my ticket let me through the barrier and then again for the underground?
TIA

Personally, I think going via Farringdon (Thameslink / Elizabeth Line) is going to be the easiest way to get from London Bridge to Paddington with luggage in the westbound direction.

There is arguably no issue going via Charing Cross regardless of the itinerary, but you will need to go down steps from both the concourse of the National Rail station down to the Underground concourse and to the Bakerloo platforms.

The Jubilee to Bakerloo interchange at Baker Street is level between platforms.

Where are you travelling from to London Bridge?

Agreed. If you're coming from the South, you can be at the rear of the Thameslink train and then walk straight into a lift down to the Elizabeth Line platforms, with no steps.

(coming from the North you need to go up to the mezzanine and then back down)

Have you confused by the direction? It's Thameslink southbound to Elizabeth line having a direct lift access, while Thameslink northbound to Elizabeth line is a direct escalator access.

I’m coming from the south-east (Tunbridge Wells area) so the easiest way is just a direct Southeastern train which goes to both London Bridge and Charing Cross.

I think the easiest quickest route is likely to be the route suggested. London Bridge, Jubilee Line to Baker Street, Metropolitan to Paddington.
The achilies heal of the Elizabethan Line to anyone south of the River not on a direct Thameslink or Abbeywood line service is the interchange at London Bridge plus the shameless cutting of through routes on the Thameslink route. I think less than half the stations south of the river have a direct service to Farrindon than was sold in the Thameslink project. The resulting frequency London Bridge to Farringdon means youre better off on the tube.

If you don’t need to use a lift then train to Charing Cross, followed by Bakerloo line tube to Paddington, then your main line train from there, is straightforward.

There are no lifts at Charing Cross and you will need to use the staircase to go down one level to the Underground ticket hall, then go down an escalator to the bakerloo (with a few more steps at the end I think).

At Paddington it’s up one escalator, a walk to the underground ticket hall, then up a short flight of steps (or a lift) to get on to the concourse opposite the ends of the mainline platforms.

If you need lifts then other routes are better.

Whilst its a straightforward route that I often use. Walking from a main line train to the Bakerloo Line Underground Platform at Charing Cross is a long walk.
Going down to the underground at Charing Cross takes you in to the Northern line ticket Office from where there is a long underground passage to the ex Trafalgar Square Station. The passage is one of the construction shafts for the station and was never designed for passenger use. It wouldn't be suitable for carry type suitcases or the infirm.
