Caledonian Sleeper have also warned that this evening's trains may arrive late tomorrow.

The rain forecast for my home in Dumfries tonight looks like some of the worst rain I’ve seen in a very long time.

I hope it doesn’t cause too much disruption but if the forecast is accurate, I’d say some flooding is inevitable.

No delays by the weather for the lowlander Caledonian Sleeper I am pleased to say. Just arrived in Watford 30mins early!

Trains from Euston terminating at Preston.

Reduced service North of Preston.

Sounds like a normal service for Avanti West Coast.

Cumbria reduced to a train every two hours, despite there being no issues on the line.

Scotrail running pretty much ok Glasgow to Carlisle via Kilmarnock.

Anyone on the ground know how bad it really is?

Some pictures on the BBC News website. Bowling station is flooded which shuts off the North Clyde and West Highland Lines. Not seen anything negative about the WCML - and it was fine at circa-midnight when I traveled down it on the southbound lowlander Sleeper - so that could be a bit of Avanti being Avanti.

Certainly the forecast (which was one of the worst I’ve seen!) was much worse than what actually happened last night in my local area. Down here it just seems like normal, heavy rainfall.

Avanti ticket acceptance is now in place for LNER services from King's Cross to Edinburgh. My own Avanti Advance ticket journey later today is from The Midlands to Lancaster and with the booked train now going to terminate at Preston I'm wondering what to do.

Is the WCML just after Gretna Junction closed? Just noticed:

(Image shows the signalling diagram for Gretna Junction, with the section immediately after Gretna Jn on the down main reading “SHUT”).

Are Northern still running north of Preston? But the obvious solution is if there isn't a bustiturion, the 40 and 41 from Preston bus station are regular and will get you to Lancaster.

The bus station is quite some way from the rail station though!

Half-hourly bus service (Preston-Morecambe via Lancaster). Takes 75 minutes. From Stand 2 Preston Bus Station dep xx05(Service 40) & xx35 (Service 41).

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Clyde has burst its banks here, plenty of local line flooding and ScotRail disruption. Bowling station just one example.

Here's an update from Bowling on our North Clyde route. The volume of water our team is trying to deal with is massive and will take time to recede. Once it's clear, we'll then need to check the track for damage too.

IMHO anyone who travels to Preston in the hope that TPE will bail them out is very brave!
The pub that's just outside Preston station should have a dormitory room for Avanti/TPE refugees!! Actually there's a point hidden there, our trains are currently so bad, I'd accept a dormitory bed for the night if I got stranded by cancellations; even a blanket on the pub floor. Tenner a night??

Lots of angry passengers on Avanti twitter en route to Carlisle for Glasgow, or waiting at Glasgow to travel south. No buses due to M74 flooding, and no ticket acceptance Scotrail/LNER.

Appreciate the weather is out of their control, but they seem to have stopped responding to the deluge (pardon the pun) of people asking what to do.

Surely Northern/LNER/TPE/scotrail could be arranged via Newcastle & Edinburgh rather than just a blanket “don’t bother” when so many people are mid journey?

According to National Rail Enquiries, tonight's Avanti 2033 from Euston to Crewe is cancelled due a speed restriction caused by weather. In Paisley

Could it be because the allocated crew can't get to Euston as they are stranded trying to get through the weather somewhere?

The problem for LNER is that with York closed service capacity north of there is limited. Yesterday it was standing room only.

Xc are only running from Edinburgh to Darlington and TPE are allegedly running newcastle to northallerton but no doubt wont bother.

I doubt there is capacity to carry all the avanti passengers on the ecml today.

PS: M74 closed according to family memeber heading up that way. Lots of water on the road.

Includes videos of severe flooding of rail and motorways.

Flooding has caused travel disruption across Scotland after heavy rain in many parts of the country.
Several rail services have been cancelled and sections of the M9 and the M74 motorways are closed.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has issued flood warnings in central and southern areas.
There are fears that flooding could hit communities in southern Scotland as river levels rise, leading to a "potentially significant" event.
A Met Office amber alert, covering Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders, had been in place, forecasting 40-50mm of rain on Friday.

According to the NRE website, Avanti and TPE ticketholders can use LNER. Trouble is, some LNER services leaving KGX and Edinburgh are known to have left full and standing - a situation exacerbated by cancellations due to crew shortage.

Avanti completely abandoning North Lancashire and Cumbria for crewing convenience.

The fact that services aren’t reaching Carlisle is bad enough; the fact they can’t even make it up to Carnforth reversing sidings (and keeping a Lancaster service) is just a joke.

Preston - Lancaster going down from 4tph to 2tph on the regular shouldn’t be acceptable. Especially when it’s a loss of (at least) 18 coaches of capacity out of a minimum of 26.

Apart from the issues with LNER, it also appears that there are now no services between Glasgow and Edinburgh (via either Falkirk or Shotts) due to flooding.

Here is current weather radar, just a few showers between Lancashire and Glasgow.

Current rainfall doesn’t show river levels, so here the link to English flood warning map, which suggests majority of problems are nearer Dorset/Devon border. (When you click on an area there is link to river levels further down)
