I have a few nicknames for certain stations which sound totally daft but I wonder if you have a particular nickname for a station.

KiKi Dee - Kirkdale
Bo Desley (Bo Diddly) - Bordesley
Cake - Eccles/Chorley

I've seen many on this forum use Bat Cave for Birmingham New Street which makes much more sense than my two examples.

I'm sure there's been a thread on this topic before, although my recollection is that most of the responses gave nicknames for the places served by the stations rather than the stations specifically (e.g. "Donny" for Doncaster).

I’ve tended to refer to Severn Tunnel Junction as “Studge”, from the acronym STJ.

The only one I tend to use really is The Ford for Hereford. Although I do sometimes use Brunel's Cathedral for London Paddington.

The Bat Cave was certainly common a few years ago for Birmingham New Street, but that seems to have dropped out of favour.

If I'm texting about a train I'm on, I might shorten the name of the station to 'Padd' or 'St Pan' (for two examples) if I know the other person knows what I'm talking about.

In general I don't see much in the way of nicknames for stations, although I did like Worcester Shrub Hill being referred to as Worcester Super Mud a number of years ago when the area near Shrub Hill (I think!) had been badly affected by flooding.

My wife has been known to refer to Manchester Piccalilli.

Back in the 'seventies, when I was commuting on the Portsmouth Direct Line, one of my fellow passengers used to refer to Godalming as 'Sod All Ming'.

• Meadowhall = Meadowhell
• Most of the Manchester stations I cut • ‘Manchester’ out, so just call them by their suffix e.g. Victoria. I also do the same with London stations.
• Stalybridge = Stalyvegas
• Sheffield = Sheff
• Doncaster = Donny

From the Fens the London stations are The Cross and The Street. Now we can go to St Pancreas too.

There are various alternative names along the way. The GN has Badlock, St Evenage (said with a French accent), and Krapy Rubsnif.

Going the other way has Wobbly End, Sawbo, Frogspawn (already mentioned), Chestnut, Several Sisters and Hanky Downs.

The London Underground anagrams map is a goldmine for alternative names. My favourites are on the west end of the District Line, Burst Racoon and Sunny Burger.

I've seen Lincoln called "Dogbox Central" here when the 153s were commonplace a few years ago.
