Evening folks,

I submitted my application for Trainee Driver jobs this morning.

I have an email confirming that it's been received. I have noticed further back in the thread from about 2018/19 people logging back into the recruitment page and being able to see the status of their application. I don't seem to be able to do this as, am I being stupid here or has the site changed since 2018/19 and you can no longer do this?

Thanks

I don't think it's advertised very well on the site but I managed to find it by logging in here -

I’m back in for it yeah, got to the interview stage last time. Hopefully moves a bit quicker this time after the covid period stalled everything. Good luck though.

Yeah good luck to you as well. I have read through this entire thread and thought there would have been a lot more recent activity given a application has just closed.

Hi guys, I applied in December when the closing date was the 31st but they extended it. Just have to wait to hear now!

Hi folks! New member, first post and first application for 'Trainee Driver'. Best of luck to all who have applied, the wait is on! I was quite surprised to see the advert extended too.

I'll update if I hear anything at all.

Yeah I noticed the advert before Xmas and the closing date of 31st before it was extended. Surely it was just due to being over Xmas period rather than anything else?

Apparently there has been a very low number of applicants in relation to previous intakes.

I don’t know if that was the reason for the extension but it’ll make it a lot less competitive process for anyone who has applied.

Maybe all the industrial action has put off a number of people applying for the role. Hopefully it makes it less competitive selfishly haha.

Hi all, I’ve applied for the trainee train driver position as well. Was also surprised to see the submission deadline extended. Fingers crossed!

Couldn't tell you Pcb1980, mine is sitting 'under consideration'. Not expecting this to change for a while after reading this forum.

Assuming they have picked the preferred candidates at this stage. Having applied before the extension doesn't fill me with much hope

I wouldn't get yourself worked up about it, we're only guessing at this stage, plenty time for a call up yet, has only been just over a week.

I applied a few days after it opened, it’s a dream job but I’m not holding my breath tbh

Don’t look too much into others being invited already, I first applied in spring 2019 and wasn't invited to the assessment centre until February 2020.

Likewise, me also. I then had a stage roughly every month.

Hello everyone, first post on here. This thread has been a valuable source of information and answered almost all the questions I have so far.

By chance I noticed the vacancy on Scotrail site for trainee drivers just after Christmas and managed to get my application in ASAP, although without rushing it to ensure I had a chance. Got an email a week ago giving me an assessment centre date on 30th Jan which I couldn't make because of work. A few days later they asked if I was available on the 31st which I am so have the first assessment then. Now using the days left I have to prepare.

I do have a few questions and if anyone can advise on these it would be appreciated?

- The invitation email says it can be used to travel on Scotrail services, therefore I am presuming I will be able to jump on a train from Stonehaven to Glasgow then back after the assessment is complete?

- Part 1 written assessment covers Group Bourdon, Tea-occ and Trainability for Rules / Procedures 1&2. The email mentions potentially staying behind to do more tests. Does anyone know the likelihood of doing the further tests on the first assessment (i.e. computer, perception test, 2 hand co-ordination and situation judgement?)

- Are the How2Become books or online package worth purchasing? I used them for my current job and found they helped me big time getting through the assessments and interview.

Morning Mouse. Yes you can travel down for free. Been a rather long time since I did my assessments, but from what I can believe, it’s normally always done in 2 parts with the computer testing and MMI done on the second stage with the DMI in between stages at home depot.

First thing to do is to find the free Group Bourdon practice papers on this forum at the top and print a million of those off and start practicing today! That is the same format that you will get on the day. If you’re not seeing dots in your sleep then you’re not doing enough. Time yourself and count your mistakes. Work at getting faster and more accurate.

There is another thread on this forum about purchasing practice packages which had been comprehensively answered with reasons to not buy it! Have a read of it and that should answer your question. Good luck.

Has anyone heard anything re first stage assessment centre this week? I’m hoping they are sending out dates for assessments in batches. Still have my fingers crossed.

Just wondering what the status of everyone's application.

Mine went from under consideration to submitted.

Mine is still showing as under consideration unfortunately. Hopefully know more next week. Not sure what order they go in.

Internal staff have started getting invites for assessments. I'm not sure about external candidates.
There were external assessments carried out Wednesday, can’t speak of any other day this week.

Those of you waiting, I know it may be hard but just be patient. They advertised for the whole of Scotland so naturally there will have been 1000’s and 1000’s of applicants.

They may be doing it location specific. Internally they have just advertised for the Glasgow area, Edinburgh area still waiting advertisement I believe. Rest of Scotland was advertised internally in December.

I applied for scotrail in 2018 and got to the final interview in about 6 months. I work for another TOC and used scotrail to jump the queue at my TOC for the assessments… and it worked.

They do it slightly differently from the TOC I work for and have the assessments spread over 2 days. I went to the final DM’s interview to see what questions they’d ask and it was the exact same as the ones my TOC use, so I think they will be a national thing apart from the obvious ‘tell me what you know about the company’ etc.

My advice would be to apply for everywhere like I did, as soon as you’re able to get the assessments out the way you’re able to be interviewed by a DM. I skipped over hundreds of colleagues doing it this way. I became fully qualified in late 2020.
