Hi All,

I’m looking for as much information as possible about these coaches. I have found out a few bits of information but not much in depth.

In particular, I’m keen on finding photos of these in action, finding out what a typical rake is, what traction would typically be used to haul them, are they still in existence?

Any information would be much appreciated as it seems to be quite scarce on the internet.

Many thanks!

They were the Intercity VIP charter rake in the early 1990s. The last remnants of the fleet in mainline operation were recently sold from Riviera Trains (in Chocolate & Cream livery) to West Coast Railways.

Here is a picture of a Scottish Land Cruise hauled by a class 37 in 1990.

Here is a compilation album.

There is a good home video of one of the land cruises here.

I have an article from Modern Railways published about 1987 that has the background to the sets.
IIRC they were 2x FO, kitchen/buffet, 3xFO, kitchen/buffet, 2x FO and a BCK for staff at one end. The centre FO didn't carry passengers as it was kept spare incase a faulty FO had to be shunted out somewhere.

I cannot remember the exact date, but I went on a trip to Kyle of Lochalsh with fellow members of my local model railway club. The train I was on was a rake of Mk2 stock painted in green and cream, with the ex-101 car on the back.

When we reached Kyle, there was a rake of coaches in Intercity livery with white roofs, but at the time I really didn't think to question anything. I think they were Mk1s, but I cannot be completely certain. What I do remember is that they looked absolutely immaculate.

There's an old thread on RM Web with details of some formations.
It might be helpful if you could post the link to the thread :)
