Ahh the ever famous loco of death as I call them yet again doing its grim reaper duty.

Seen it passing through Farnborough earlier, nice to catch a bit of thrash. I was wondering why the 313 door interlock lights have remained lit while moving?

I had wondered why it couldn't power itself to Eastleigh via Fareham. Was there a technical reason why the shoegear was removed? My shot from Earlswood, in sleet, running 115 late.DSC09032b.jpeg

No idea, but post #132 in the 313 railtour thread had a similar comment:

These units were out of use for a long time before being sent for scrap.
That is indeed correct, I have been commuting on them since September, and I never travelled on 313217 and 313214 (although I did travel on 313202 a few times in September)

I would suspect while they have been out of service, they would have been ripping out equipment so it could be used as spare parts on the 16 remaining units. I would suspect shoegear could have been an example of spare equipment that could have been useful to hold onto in case that was an issue on any unit.

I don't claim to be any kind of expert but presuming here because the loco is connected directly to the train all sorts of things have been tripped like the door interlock and the emergency brake supply. That would likely put the hazard lights on, it does on the 150 units etc

Apparently this is for storage at Eastleigh not scrap .... Can anyone confirm? I'd better rename my video lol

When it passed me this afternoon, I did note there was a member of ROG staff Sat in the drivers seat of 313202, presumably monitoring the units. I did wonder why most of the BIL lights were on!

Hmmm, but even if hauled as they were today, it's a far shorter route via Fareham - wonder why the tortuous route round London was used. Surely there isn't a clearance issue on that route, is there?

I think it’s scrap but not sure.
Technically it's for storage but I can't see anyone else using them!

Good point, but why not hauled via Fareham to avoid the longer journey via NW London?

313s don't have EBS or hazard lights .. lack of interlock also doesn't apply the brakes. I'm sure many things were done to prep the units for dead haul but I couldn't say exactly what.
