Just competed the scenario assessment. I thought it was straight forward but the order of the sub questions asked threw me off a bit and had me going backwards and forwards. I felt I got all the content in though just not in a particular order. I used the 4 mins on every task.

Which position are you applying for?

The training pay change has been in the RMT/NR deal from the start of negotiations, they’ve been looking to bring it in for a while.
There’s other things in there too that will affect new starters (in summary):
- You’ll go to full salary after passing out just one workstation/panel(/box if you have a relief patch) rather than currently needing to pass out all of them before getting full pay
- The 26 week and 52 week rules are coming back, so once an external candidate starts you can’t move to a new box for 52 weeks (or 26 weeks rule for internal candidates to move boxes)
- If they advertise for a signaller job and then within 18 weeks need to rehire for the same box, they can just hire a previous applicant rather than doing it again
- Similarly if you’re in a contingent pool of new starters they don’t need to interview you for every single job but can do 1 and then just give you a box when available

Hello out of curiosity where did you see the information on the highlighted text? Just I'm set to move to a new role soon where I will stay on my current grade till I pass 4 workstations, so if this is the case it would benefit my massively if it had been agreed.

It’s in the appendix of the deal up for referendum at the moment.

I can’t remember if that line applies to internal moves too or just external new joiners, and obviously who knows how it works for those already in training/contracted/in the process of moving boxes.

Ah yeah just had a look through the appendix, does seem its more orientated to new joiners.

Just have to put up with the paycut for 5 months or so for taking a promotion.

I don’t suppose there is any G5 York based signallers on here who would be kind enough to drop me an inbox so I could ask some questions? I’ve got an interview for a G5 position at York coming up! Cheers

Hi all, new to the forum. I’ve recently applied for a couple of signaller posts and am through to the interview stage at West Mids. Snooping around on here for anything I find helpful!

Good luck to those of you that are also in the process

Hey, congrats on getting an interview. Myself and a couple of others here are also interviewing for WMSC this month.

I interviewed (unsuccessfully) last year and I strongly recommend you take the time to read through this entire thread - you will find lots of useful nuggets that will help you prepare for it. Good luck!

Are you guys waiting to see if you have an interview or waiting for responses after an interview?
Waiting to see if going to be offered an interview, had a holding email a few weeks ago apologising for delay and an update would come W/C 27/02 and still no further forward, would rather know either way.

Can anyone help with a couple of questions about the West Midlands signalling centre. I have an interview in a few weeks for this location.

What sort of shift patterns/ rotations are there?

Would there be anything important that I should know about that location for the interview?

Edit: I have looked back over probably 150 pages on this forum now so have found out bits of information. Anything extra would be amazing!

Thank you for any help in advance

Good Morning guys.. Newbie here! I've passed application and ability tests, just waiting to hear if I'm through to scenario and interview stage, they've said its 2 weeks after the closing date which is yesterday.. (Holyhead/Bangor and Llandudno Signaller)

How do they score you overall.. Is it points for each stage, and total it all up at the end?
Also any advice on the scenario and interview stage would be hugely appreciated

Hi Willpilbeam,

Congratulation on passing the application & ability test. To answer your question on scoring, you will never know. It's either a case of going through to the next stage or not going any further. Keep at it, it's worth it.

Advice for the interview & to quote from @Horizon22 "Safety is obviously key but think about other skills like dealing with emergency situations, working with others, the importance of clear communication, prioritising tasks and so on".

Something that might be worth thinking about before the interview. Take some notes of what is around the signal box. Viewing from the station platform, not trespassing. (google maps is your friend)

Good luck.

Thank you Ross.. This is much appreciated! Plenty of notes being taken, just a waiting game now to see if I've got to the interview and scenerio stage

Does anyone have any examples of what a “compliant” 12 hour roster looks like?

In - Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed (day)
Off - Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed
In - Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun (night)
Off - Mon, Tue, Wed
In - Thur, Fri, Sat (day)

The bold section of this roster is non-compliant. It breaks the maximum 60 hours in a rolling 7 day period.

Thanks! I’ve seen this before, and this is the current roster my box is on. I’m going to be at Upper Holloway, just waiting to start IST now after many delays. But this roster isn’t compliant with the new ORR rules as far as I’m aware. I’d be very happy to work this roster though, it’s very similar to my old roster at the ambulance control room.

I was wondering what a compliant 12-hour roster might look like?

The most popular variants I've seen to make the roster compliant involve taking one the the shifts from those two weeks that are non compliant and moving a single shift to the full week off, most often the Wednesday night.
