Connected by East Midlands Railway, the Luton Airport Express whisks you direct to Luton Airport Parkway station for the four-minute hop to the airport on the new Luton DART.
The new Luton Airport Express will offer simpler journeys and encourage people to wait for up to 30 minutes for the Express service instead of taking the Thameslink service which calls at intermediate stations.

This brings Luton Airport into line with Gatwick Airport and along with the provision of DART provides a consistent approach for public transport provision across the budget airports in London.

As airport users are are able to consistently predict their arrival times, passengers will be encouraged to purchase Advance tickets, which have no value whatsoever if the booked train is missed due to a delayed flight.

Fares from the airport to London start at just £10 one-way; you’ll need to buy a new ticket if you miss the train you’re booked on, due to flight, immigration or baggage delays. This is all part of the simplified, easier way to travel, which enables you to book with confidence.

Although Luton Airport Express is not a train company, the introduction of the additional brand name brings this service into line with Gatwick and Stansted Express services (operated by GTR and Greater Anglia respectively); customer research has shown that a dedicated airport brand reassures passengers and simplifies the choice.

Passengers travelling to destinations such as Bedford, Kettering and Corby will gain increased confidence by understanding that trains which are branded Luton Airport Express are the correct trains for their destinations; this is in line with the simplified experience of passengers to Brighton on GTR's Gatwick Express and ensures a consistent approach.

Does anyone know how much a taxi costs? Surely cheaper in a group to go by taxi.

I don't know about any other operators but TPE allow travel up to 3 hours after your booked advance in the event of any flight/airport delays, that would surely be a great selling point if introduced on LAE services.

I don't think slapping "Luton Airport Express" on the side of a 360 was quite the refurbishment that users were hoping for

Don't forget that passengers can travel in style on the brand new fleet of 12 carriage electric Class 360 trains! With comfortable 2+2 seating and plenty of tables, plug sockets at every seat, and specially designated luggage areas designed to cope with airport traffic, customers can relax in style with a journey time to the airport from 32 minutes.

I think cancellations on TPE themselves are far more of a concern than flight delays.

The unfortunate thing is this is just about spot on.

So, the suggestion that it's 'cheap'
Naturally, given the DART has a fare of £4.90.
...is false advertising?

Cheap, compared to... a private helicopter. Hardly encouraging use of public transport, quite the opposite - it's a deterrent.

No, not "naturally" when the DART is supposed to be included with a London to Luton rail ticket?

I would have assumed the TOC, DfT et all would have tried to secure an actual discount on the Dart to encourage sales of through tickets.

Given that single fares on the bus are £2 at the moment and there is a taxi for £6 I know what I’d choose! Image taken from https://www.traveline.info/

It is? London to Luton airport will include a DART ticket. London to Luton Parkway doesn't and as such is £4.90 cheaper.

Not really. London to Luton Airport includes DART. London to Luton, and London to Luton Airport Parkway, do not.

That is possibly the most tongue in cheek (but absolutely accurate) post that l've seen on here.

Wouldn’t surprise me to be honest! The deep clean aspect of the refurbishment seems to have consisted of giving just the areas of seating being filmed an extra good scrub

Prior to there introduction they were given a deep clean by private contractors, I witnessed this at Kettering Sidings at the time as they were using industrial Vac washers.

Apparently when they first arrived they were still full of litter because GA hadn’t bothered cleaning them before they left Ilford!

There are also a few other similar examples where the add-on is priced as a fixed amount above the National Rail fare as well:

Fares to Heathrow Airport on Heathrow Express are priced as the applicable fare to London Terminal + £28 (with +) or £25 (from the GWR network west of Reading) or £22 (from Iver - Twyford).

Fares to London Underground zones are priced as the applicable fare to the presumed interchange station + a fixed amount on top, which may end up more than the corresponding Day Travelcard.

The actual fares according to bustimes.org/fares are £1.80 for the Route 100 service, £1.90 for the Route A service, and £2.40 for the Route 757 service (the Route 757 service is not part of the fare cap scheme).
