Hopefully will get to know one way or another fairly soon but not feeling optimistic as too much time has passed.
Have you had an interview? If so when was yours? From what I've heard on here, the wait is normal, and also i was told if successful the next course is in October, unless there was one booked before, so yeah just a waiting game

Hello all, is there anyone on here due to start IST on 5th June. If so have you had any details yet? Only 2 weeks to go and I’ve not had any further details.

Hello, been a while since my last post.

I have been invited to attend a Motivational Fit interview. What sort of questions should I expect? Is it competency based or something completely different?

Speak to your LOM if you know who they are. I had the same issue. I was sent nothing by HR and reached out on here and was lucky enough that someone from the box i was going to passed my details onto my LOM who who was really helpful and gave me all the joining information I needed

No interview as of yet. Still waiting for a confirmed interview date. Passed all tests etc over 2 months ago! I'm hoping to secure an interview for my nearest signal boxes at either Holyhead or Bangor but it's all gone very quiet so not sure exactly what is happening regarding the positions. Would like to know one way or the other.

Its a strange one, not sure why they put 6 positions up, but clearly not ready for people.. Unless they want to build a pool of candidates and pick from them as and when they need? Only thing i can think of

Time will tell. Hopefully it will all work out. Good luck and hope you hear something positive soon.

Hi There

I did a motivational fit interview recently. I found it to be very relaxed and more like a chat. It was basically asking if I was still interested in the position but in another box. They only asked me a couple of transferable skills questions and how I found my last interview. I was offered the job towards the end of the interview where I had a choice of where I wanted to work.

Good luck.

Hello All

First time post. I have been lucky enough to get a grade 5 position at the York ROC and I am starting my training on the 5th June. I just wondered if anyone on here would be on the same training course?

Big thank you to this forum as well, it helped so much during my application process.
I’m starting 5th June. No other details received yet about where to go/what to do in those initial 2 weeks.
IST is 19th June. Have you heard anything yet?

Hi all

Has anyone got any info on the role currently advertised on NR for Acton Well signaller?

Shift pattern, potential for overtime and what grade it is?

I'm not currently a signaller so any info is appreciated

Acton Wells is single manned, 12hr roster, Grade 6. With Inner London allowance and booked Sundays, you're looking at £55K-£60K basic. Don't forget, we're no longer allowed to work more than 60 hours per rolling 7-day week, although some boxes and areas currently have derogations - so even if there is overtime available, you may not be able to 'grab' that much.

It's unusual for a single-manned box in that it has a VDU workstation. It can also get quite busy - e.g. this sample from yesterday: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se...23-05-23/0600-1800?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt

There was a plan to introduce meal break relief at the busier boxes in this area - including Acton Wells - but I'm not sure if it actually materialised.

Hopefully I will be successful, I previously applied for G9 and was put on a reserve list. Got a call recently inviting me to an interview for a G7 position at the same location.

Crikey, that looks like a busy little shift there. I’ll stick to my Grade 3, not sure I could handle all that lot!

I’ve still not had any details. I’m assuming the course is in York but I don’t know really. I sent a message to my LOM on Monday but not had a response yet. Not really sure what else I can do.

Hello all, so I have now heard from my LOM that my start date is 5th June but I don’t start IST until 3rd July. Can anyone tell me what I will be doing in between the two dates? I am so confused and nervous because I finished my old job yesterday and I now don’t know if I will be on payroll from the 5th June.

Yes, you get paid from your start date.

Between starting and IST is up to your LOM but probably will include things like seeing and spending time in your box/boxes, going with the MOM to see the area, in the office with your LOM to sort general paperwork, and some bits of e-learning, and probably some paid time off which is welcome before 12 weeks away!

Brilliant, thank you for that. Seems like a lot of time to fill between starting my contract and starting IST but I guess they know what they are doing.

Hi everyone, I have just successfully passed my medical assessment. Does anyone have any idea on how long it would take to receive confirmation and DBS check as I need to hand my notice in in the next few days

It's all feeling a little bit more real now. Excited to get started

Just had an email telling me I failed the aptitude tests for the Grade 2 roles in Yorkshire. Devastated is not the word, and confused because I passed the exact same tests in November 2021 and this time I thought I performed better. I was more prepared and barely had any errors across the three tests that mark as you go. So Now I'm frozen out until November 24th.

Absolutely devastated

Did you get a cancellation or was there just early availability near you? Mine isn't untill June 22nd. When I get back from this work trip I shall have to see if I can maybe go to another location to have it done.

Don't worry about it too much, I had exactly the same thing. Passed first time round but couldn't move forward with interview due to personal circumstances.

Took them again last September, thought I'd done really well, didn't meet the pass mark. Was gutted but figured it was out of my control and I didn't even look at the recruitment page for 6 months as I knew there would be no point.

The same job I'd wanted in the September came up in March, I applied on the day I was able to sit the tests again and this time passed and made it to interview.

The time will go quicker than you think. You've passed them once so you know you can do it, this was just a blip!

I needed it done ASAP so said I was willing to travel. Earliest they could do when I got offered the job was 5th June (local to me) but I ended up travelling to Derby to get it done today

I don’t think Acton Wells is so bad, I worked Feltham and we used to take one of their line blocks on a daily basis.
They had a couple of decent signallers and some questionable ones.

£55K-£60K basic.
For a grad 6 posistion? How so?

Same for me, I had to drive 90 mins out the way to do the medical. It was the only place with a slot within 2.5hrs from me over 2 months!

Thanks for the support but I'm not applying again. I know I performed better on the tests this time because to be honest, I made a complete mess of the ones I passed in 2021. Like you, due to personal circs i couldn't take the job back then but they urged me to reapply when I'm ready. So I did last week, which is the next time a local vacancy came up.
So this time I really put the effort in because i wanted a strong performance on the tests. Across the three tests that mark you as you go, I barely made a mistake. The Grid Challenge I know I did better on because I was really prepared for it, so all i can think of was i selected a wrong answer on the psychometric questionnaire test. There's no way of preparing for that one or knowing what they're looking for so I'm not putting myself through this disappointment again, it's really not worth it

Good morning everyone. My first post so please be gentle! I have applied for a few roles and struggled with the grid challenge. However I passed that this time and been invited for a scenario assessment and interview. Can anyone provide any hints or tips on what to expect on the scenario assessment? Huge thanks to anyone kind enough to reply and offer their invaluable insight.

Congratulations for getting to this stage. You don’t need tonnes of knowledge for this assessment, it’s more about common sense and applying logic to the situations.

It’s been covered loads on this thread. Best thing to do is use the search function and only select this thread and you will find what you’re looking for.

Best of luck!
