Seeing as the Newport diversion adds an hour on to the journey (two hours for a round trip) as per the current Erewash Valley diversions which continue to see two HST diagrams per day, I'd imagine it'd be the same set up, that being;

1V46 06:XX Leeds to Plymouth, returning as 1S53 13:27 Plymouth to Edinburgh
1V52 06:06 Edinburgh to Plymouth, returning as 1E67 1627 Plymouth to Leeds
Cheers for that, we're on the same page in that case. I appreciate that timetable pathing isn't an allocation, however those services are also suggested to be HST.

On another note, RTT showing 3 sets out today, as follows:

43285 + 43357 (set XC05)

5S53 1249 Laira TRSMD to Plymouth
1S53 1327 Plymouth to Edinburgh
5S55 2330 Edinburgh to Craigentinny TRSMD

43208 + 43304 (set XC03)
5V48 0743 Neville Hill TRSMD to Leeds
1V48 0811 Leeds to Plymouth
1S55 1427 Plymouth to Leeds

5G55 2105 Leeds to Neville Hill TRSMD

43303 + 43239 (set XC02)
5V60 1029 Craigentinny TRSMD to Edinburgh
1V62 1105 Edinburgh to Plymouth
5V62 2106 Plymouth to Laira TRSMD

Just checking RTT for XC HSTs on Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd. There seems to be 3 (if not 4) southbound workings on the Saturday. Is this correct they are all diagrammed for HSTs or is it just how XC have timed them on that day? I realise there may be more out due to Newport diversion meaning longer journey time.

Just the two diagrams, so two southbound workings, if there is ever three diagrams it will typically be one diagram going onto Laira ex a Southbound service and another will be a fresh set from Laira to form a Northbound service.

Thank you. So on the Saturday which southbound journeys will be HSTs and on the Sunday which two northbound journeys?

Saturday
1V44 0609 Leeds-Plymouth/1S53 1327 Plymouth-Edinburgh
1V50 0606 Edinburgh-Plymouth/1E73 1627 Plymouth-Leeds

Sunday (actually 3 diagrams, 1S55 is ex LA and 1V60 goes onto LA, although this does however open up the possibility that 1S55 isn't an HST if a set isn't available)
1V48 0811 Leeds-Plymouth/1E67 1525 Plymouth-Leeds
1V60 1105 Edinburgh-Plymouth
1S55 1327 Plymouth-Edinburgh

Good morning all, I hope you're ok :) .

Just looked at CrossCountry's JourneyCheck and realtime trains and the 06:58 Edinburgh to Plymouth has gone from a 7-coach HST down to a Voyager and the 08:07 Edinburgh to Plymouth is now an HST. How come the permanent change? The 06:58 should have been a double Voyager at least - 4 coaches on that length is unpopular.

Indeed. The 1227 off Plymouth now a voyager , shame, as Plymouth folk now cannot use decent traction to travel north until 1327! My guess is that it provides somebody's homeward train out of Birmingham to wherever (leaving Birmingham at just after 5, Id imagine alot of XC management staff live Derby way? ) Its a shame as the 1227 out of Plymouth was a nice enough train to use and got you up north at just about a reasonable time. Mind you it'll all be irrelevant in a few months time!

1227 1S51 is still a HST weekdays and should be on Saturday as well. Sometimes voyagers substitute HST.

I believe these are now the Saturday diagrams (excluding any engineering works):

1V44 06:09 Leeds to Plymouth
1S51 12:27 Plymouth to Glasgow Central

1V54 08:07 Edinburgh to Plymouth
1E73 17:27 Plymouth to Leeds

Eveeytime I've seen it since May its been a voyager, at least 3 or 4 occasions.
During the two week blockade between Derby and Chesterfield, trains were diverted via Toton (and mostly also via Doncaster), adding one hour to the journey time. For trains that had originated from north of there, the return workings from the south west were naturally an hour later, hence the HST working the 13:27 from Plymouth.

With the blockade finished, the timetable reverted back to normal, so for the last week, it has been the 12:27 that has been an HST.

Could someone refresh my memory please. I'm I right in thinking that there will be at least two daily HST diagrams until some date in September? I did find out on one of our forums, but I've forgotten since and I can't find what I read.

This is correct, reduces to 1 diagram at some point in September and then the last diagram goes during October. I don't believe any specific dates have been mooted yet.

Had a nice ride from Derby to Bristol on Saturday on the 0807 from Edinburgh-Plymouth. As it approached Cheltenham, I noticed another HST set parked in the Up Loop just north of the station. Does anyone know what it was doing there?

Two coaches going up to Doncaster for overhaul.

Today’s 1527 is slightly shorter with 6 coaches in lieu of the usual 7 coach set.
thanks - that is still 2 carriages better than the 4 carriages on the last XC service I used ;)

( to be fair the 1527 from Plymouth/1903 from Brum is about the only XC I can get after work on a Friday - connections on the earlier trains from Brum are just too tight these days. There is a really annoying Edinburgh bound Avanti that doesn't call at MKC at exactly the right time! )

I travelled on the 12.27 ex Plymouth yesterday (29.06) from Exeter & alighted at Worcestershire Parkway (special stop due to cancellations on the Cardiff to Nottingham route).

On the basis there are only two HST worked services each way I’m thinking a call there by a ‘proper’ train must be quite rare.

Early this year, planned engineering work resulted in HSTs turning round there - with Worcestershire Parkway being the terminus/origin point from/to the north. Because of the shortened journeys, there were more HST operated services than normal, too!

06.11 Leeds to Plymouth
13.27 Plymouth to Edinburgh

06.06 Edinburgh to Plymouth
16.27 Plymouth to Leeds

All run via Newport.
Sadly the 06:09 from Leeds is a 5-car Voyager this morning. Hopefully the HST will take over from Plymouth on it's 13:27 to Edinburgh!

Oh I see. Not as rare as I thought then!
