Hi everyone, first time posting.
I've applied for the two positions recently advertised in the Cardiff area, can anyone give me any info on where the positions are actually located?
Also, I've just completed the scenario assessment and have the video interview later this month, does anyone know if this is the final interview or will a face to face follow if successful? Thanks.

Video interview is the last stage.

Hi all- was successful for the grade 2 Yorkshire posts too. Been given a provisional start date of the end of October and then signaller training couple of weeks into November. Sent everything off too so just waiting for my medical ect. To my amazement was offered a box in the Scunthorpe area which is where I’m actually from, so can’t wait to get started :D
LJC2023 not many boxes in the scunthorpe area so which one have you been offered

Was a question I asked based on that reason and was told I would find out in due course.

I did think it might be Northorpe I am offered as that was one of the boxes listed on the advert and isn’t a million miles away.

Does anyone know the shift pattern for northorpe if that is the case?

Totally agree.. I visited a box before my interview, and they did ask if i had. Its helpful because you have gained an insight into what you could be doing etc, and you speak to an experienced signaller

I'm sure I've got signalling school in October, where is yours?

Hello everyone, first time poster.
Missed a call last Thursday while at work and called NR back on Friday - Extremely happy as I have been successful for the Grade 2 Yorkshire posts. Was informed I am looking at officially being employed 30th October, then two weeks later starting IST (location not confirmed yet). Sent everything off for my checks and just waiting to hear regarding my medical. I was told it will be the Scunthorpe area. Not been told a specific box yet but - possibly Northorpe as roughly 30 mins away . Guess I will just have to wait and see...

I start the same date for the ASC too! Did you get any info on the roster?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

I got confirmation of my medical results this week, very excited to join Basingstoke ASC August 21st!
Got to love the railway, there is never a rush to start

What is life as a relief like? Is permanent cover turn going to hurt?
Hey, i look forward to meeting you on the 21st. I believe working as a relief means that you don't know the hours you will be working until the week before. But you do know the days.

Interesting… the same as me date/ location wise, so just a waiting game. Do you have any info on the rota for this area? I didn’t think to ask with the location yet to be confirmed. Are you local to Scunthorpe?

Hello folks - I've finally got my medical this coming Friday in Peterborough. The address they gave me seems a little mixed-up, but would I be correct in thinking that the 'Optima Health Peterborough DU Healthcare Facility' is somewhere in the NR depot off Thorpe Road?

No I didn't ask rota wise as not sure on my location yet similar to yourself. Personally I would like 12s as I work 14 hour shifts currently. I actually live in Retford (DN22), about 20 mins drive from Gainsborough. Everyone wants a quick commute as possible but tbh I am very happy to have a position and will go where allocated. I have done 6 years at Rampton High Secure Hospital and previously 2 years in the prison service and very excited for a change and new challenge!

Well done on all you getting the Yorkshire posts, as posted before on a reserve list but with you all accepting gives less competition for the G9 York ROC jobs ;);)

Keep in touch of the forums though your journeys will help others including me along the way.

It is mate yes. Just ring the buzzer and say you’re there for a medical. There is parking outside the building, but I ended up parking in the car park of a different company I can’t remember the name of now as I got there a good 20 minutes before the medical examiner.

Hi all, great source of information on here. I was just wondering if anyone might know the shift pattern for Lancing box and the start/finish times. I have been interviewed for the post and now waiting to find out if I have been successful. Thanks in advance.

Cheers mate, that's much appreciated - one less thing to worry about, at least

Evening folks..

Just done my online psychometric testing for Signaller posts up in Scotland. Must admit found it all very straightforward apart from the grid challenge remembering the dots in-between doing other tasks.

Personally think the practice tutorial was not great as only had you recalling two dots where as the actual test the recall was 5 dots. So was thrown a bit by that so I don't hold out to much hope.

Does anyone know roughly how long before they will provide feedback on the result of that.

Just had my offer pack. Couple of questions

1. What is the Annual Leave Entitlement for a signaller working 12 hour shifts?

2. Is Training Pay as follows (Grade 7 position)
IST G2
On Location Training G4
1st Desk Signed G7

3. I am already a member of RPS, what is my options on this?
1: New starters should be 17 days. It increases to 19 days after ten years.

2:Think that's correct.

3: Probably worth contacting Rail Pensions in Darlington. I note from the RPS website that they use Liverpool Victoria (LV) to provide advice. 0800 p23 4187 for their dedicated RPS team. Alternatively, seek advice from an independent advisor.

Hi mate, I heard back the next day via email but that might’ve been a fluke.

I struggled with the dots too mate, honestly don’t think I got more than half of the dots correct but I still passed so maybe it’s in you’re head.

Yeah fingers crossed. I think I probably got most of the questions inbetween the dots correct but couldnt even roughly guess how many dots I got correct

Just another wee query Network Rail have been advertising for Signaller at various locations including Cupar in Fife.

From doing some research on the boxes I have noticed info about Leuchars, Tay Bridge South and Cupar all being scheduled for closure in 2025 with control being transferred to the Regional Operations Centre in Edinburgh.

Does anyone have any further info on this?

Same for me bud. If you did well on the others I’m sure it’ll balance out. Good luck
And same here as well. I found the first couple of tests pretty straightforward but really struggled with the last one. Probably only got two answers right. Thought I'd have failed it all but got progressed through.

Don't give up hope, as Leedslad0113 says it'll probably balance out.

Agree about the tutorial. It wasnt clear at all. Thought I did awful on that section too, but got an email very quickly saying I'd passed. Think it was the next day

Interesting.

I'm about to start IST for a grade 3 box in Scotland that is lever operated. This kind of thing has always worried me but if you look back at the very first page that started this thread, the threat of moving to a localised ROC has always been present but I think, the overall cost and electrification of the whole route would take astronomical in terms of time and cost.

Then again, that's 7 years now, 9 years come 2025.

Probably still worth getting in I'd say!

Yeah, local to Harrogate :) I am also just awaiting the date for medical after sending off my acceptance stuff. Yeah, I'm local to Harrogate. Guess it was a bit easier/more difficult as it was the only area that I put down. Although, will be interesting to see which boxes are considered to be in the Harrogate area.
Harrogate area will be : Poppleton, Hammerton, Cattal, Knaresborough, Starbeck, Harrogate.

Hello all. First time poster after looking through so much of this info and recently applying for a couple of different signaller jobs in Kent.

I have looked through and searched a lot of the posts but I just can't find a couple of answers...

Is the residential signalling course carried out in specific training centres or a few of them around the country?

Secondly, I know different boxes have different shift patterns but a friend told me they do 12hr shifts at his ROC. What does that look like as a pattern across the weeks? I couldn't work out if the pattern High Duke posted above was 12hr shifts.

TIA
