Car makers do it to hide design changes, presumably because they think other firms will copy them... ‍
Oh no, I know that. Looking at the headlights, though, there's a definite change in line with TfL-spec buses!

All I can say from the StreetDeck image I can't exactly get the source of is that it rather reminds me of something VDL or Volgren would put out.

It would seem Wrightbus are experimenting with something on both the StreetDeck and GB Kite Electroliner models. In a similar vein to Metroline's WDE2857, which I unfortunately cannot reproduce a photo of, here's a GB Kite prototype on the M40 with this strange new front end.

According to a post by "a london bus forum user" which I'm trying desperately to attribute:

Strange times. Could this be the beginning of the end of the 'Stealth' frontage?
Looks like Abellio spec: could this be the beginning of London route E7 electrification?

The "Stealth" front was always going to have to change to comply with TfL's specification for frontal geometry required on all new buses from next year. The change was announced as part of the Bus Safety Standard in 2019, giving manufacturers 5 years to comply.

The Volvo BZL already complies, as does the Irizar ie Tram and the forthcoming all-ADL E100EV and E400EV certainly look like they comply.

Thank goodness if they are coming up with a new front end styling - the *Bugs Bunny teeth look is (particularly amplified on Reading Buses Orange Streetdeck's with the illuminated Wrights Logo) awful compared to both what went before it and what Wrights competitors can produce.

*I always found it less stealthy and more bucktooth in appearance. Though not as bad as BMW's latest car offerings!

I don't know, I thought it gave it that modern, 21st-century appearance that really fit the electric models well. Ah, but the design is getting on ten years old now at this point...

Agreed. I wish Wrights would also revise the upper deck to give decent sized windows again.

This is related as this is an Alexander Dennis touch, but are they now adding ‘Alexander Dennis Enviro 200’ to their new build Enviro 200 MMCs? This touch has appeared on a Go North West Enviro 200 MMC (not my photo)
I'm not too sure on that "Enviro200" text, it seems a bit too larger. Also note the new style Alexander Dennis logo opposite it on the nearside.

I'm unable to post here as i can't find the post now, however i noticed from rear photos of the new Enviro100EV that it also shares the same lettering on the rear.

This looks like an interesting new type.
Bus manufacturer Atlas will launch a 7.5m electric bus called the Atlas Auto. An 8.7 metre version is also planned.

Altas expands portfolio with Zhongtong partnership

LITHUANIA

Lithuanian minibus manufacturer Altas, known in the UK thanks to its partnership with EVM, has announced plans to expand its EV product portfolio with two new, larger capacity electric buses. The manufacturer is to partner with Zhongtong Bus & Holding Co and has signed an agreement which will give Zhongtong access to Altas’ extensive knowledge of the European market and customer needs, whilst allowing Altas to take advantage of the Chinese company’s experience in applying electric drive to larger buses.

A new 7.5m city bus vision will be presented at the Altas Auto stand at Busworld, the first of a planned range of small buses that meet European specifications and requirements.

At 7.5m in length and less than 2.1m wide, Altas says the new mid-size bus has been designed for easy driving on narrow city streets that are difficult for conventional buses to access. It will carry up to 37 passengers. A longer 8.7m bus with a maximum capacity of 60 passengers is also planned.

“The strategic partnership will enable two companies to fulfill our goals. By combining Zhongtong Bus competencies in the production of electric buses and Altas Auto experience in the European small bus market, we are expecting to further strengthen our positions and provide a solid ground for even closer cooperation in the future,” said Edvardas Radzevicius, CEO of Altas Auto.

“We hope that by applying our competencies in the production of electric buses and the skills and knowledge of Altas Auto in the European small and medium bus market, we will be able to create and deliver high-quality products that meet customer expectations in a relatively short time,” added Jiliu Li, General Manager of Germany-based Zhongtong Bus Europe.

Due to the lack of a UK show this year, most of the new models are being launched at Brussels bus show this year.

There are lots of new electric buses, including a new Unvi bodied double decker from BYD, and 24m double articulated buses for the Paris area.

The article keeps being updated with extra info, and photos, and is quite long, so I'm not going to attempt to quote it. But clearly with so many new and updated models it would be a shame not to link it here

The one you missed and the article missed, of most interest to the UK,, is the new Yutong Double-Deck in Right Hand Drive form. This vehicle will become a demonstrator in the UK after the show so expect it to appear at various fleets over the next few months. Incidentally, in the photo I've seen it looks very much like an ADL Enviro E400 City, apart from the lower front.

There's a silver demonstrator currently in service with First in Sheffield.

The only British maker I see is Mellor. Where are the others?

Strange that none of ADL, Wrightbus or Switch were there, seeing that all have sold buses on the continent, and Switch are building a factory in Spain.

As they are owned by Ashok Leyland it might be better if they could use the Leyland name, unless anybody else has rights to it.
I would have thought that Volvo still retains the rights to the Leyland name for buses in the UK.

Is this the reason why there was both a Leyland and Volvo Olympian name until low floor buses?
Volvo acquired Leyland Bus in 1988 and the Olympian was the last Leyland model in production. The Olympian was eventually re-engineered to accommodate a Volvo engine and to standardise some other components and production was moved to Irvine from Workington; it was at this point that it was badged as a Volvo.

Stagecoach Switch Mobility order includes 60 diesel Solos

Stagecoach has ordered 70 buses from Switch Mobility. 10 are battery-electric Metrocitys at 9.5m for its London operation, and 60 are diesel Solos sold under the Optare brand. The latter are Slimline, 8.5m examples that are to replace existing Solos in Stagecoach fleets.

The Metrocitys will enter service on route W11 between Chingford Hall and Walthamstow in early 2024, while the Solos will be delivered during the first of next year. Switch advises that the Metrocity fleet will have NMC battery technology and deliver a range of up to 170 miles. The Solos will be 28-seaters.

Completion of the deal represents a major boost for Switch’s UK business, and confirms its decision to again manufacture diesel buses under the Optare brand. In early 2022, now-departed CEO and Executive Vice-Chairman Dr Andy Palmer said that the business had built its final non-zero-emission vehicles.

Speaking about the business from Stagecoach, current Switch Mobility CEO Mahesh Babu says: “We are delighted to continue to expand our relationship with Stagecoach. Its repeat order for the Metrocity electric bus, following the recent delivery of 20 in London, is testament to the vehicle’s efficiency and versatility.

“While our focus at Switch is on engineering and delivering the world’s most efficient electric buses, we recognise that operators such as Stagecoach are continuing to look for ways to reduce their environmental impact and improve the efficiency of their fleets.

“For this reason, we have taken the decision to restart production of our renowned Solo product and support Stagecoach in replacing part of its existing Solo fleet.”

Despite the order for diesels, Stagecoach Chief Operating Officer Sam Greer has underlined the group’s commitment to operating a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035.

And don't forget the first Olympians were made by Bristol ( although by then, Leyland owned ) !

Under my stone....
So much for Switch claiming they'd no longer be building diesel buses! :D
Of all the former Switch CEO's achievements in his post, the dumbest one of the lot has to be setting fire to an established base of small operator customers who bought single batches of diesel engined Solos, sending them to the arms of ADL.....!
