Just got an email saying they sent me the wrong physcometric assesment for the rugby posting . Anyone encountered this before
I’ve also had this email. I think it’s because the there are 2 websites. There is one where they recruit for signaller roles and the other portal is for all other roles. The Rugby vacancy was not posted on the Signaller vacancy site it was on the other site where it was a set of questions that you had to answer please correct me if I’m wrong but the signaller assessments are psychometric and not a section of questions that you have to answer.

Have you had your medical yet?

My start date was only confirmed after my medical.
No not yet, that would make sense then. Seems like they're not using Optima any more so I'll have to wait until November when their in house medicals start.

Yes mate has the same issue, was your assesment also about reaction times and shapes at all?

Did anyone in the recent interviews have to open up with a big monologue introducing themselves?

Its a lot of repetition from the cv to the actual online application filled with the questions.

Im assuming Strengths and weaknesses will pop up and maybe education too

Not a big monologue, but a chat about who I am, what I’ve done, what led me to this point etc.

Education wasn’t mentioned at all. They’re looking at the skills you have, and how those skills could make you a good signaller.

Just got the 2 rejections through for the trainee role despite passing the second stage assessments, this would be the 4th one with no interview invite now and im thinking its time to call it quits and look at other roles within the railway. I have sought some feedback but no reply from recruitment just yet, for all those who say they give the roles out to existing NR employees I can ensure you, they don't seem to :D.

That’s frustrating. I’m surprised they’re getting you to do the assessments I thought they were for external only. I could be wrong. But I know a few people from Train Planning and they managed to skip they assessments as they are internal and went straight to interview.

Hi I think different grades get different levels of assessment

Grade 2 ones said 40 mins but in actuality can take longer if you pause in between the different sections.

All I would say practice the examples as many times as you can.

The remebering the spots sequence I've still got nightmares doing that

Is this the E with the 3 dots one or is it different?

There is a rectangle box with spots scattered all over it then one gets highlighted then you move onto another puzzle to solve then the box with spots appears again highlighting another spot

This continues from memory and at the end you got highlight sequence order of the spots

Getting ptsd talking about

Probably testing your multi tasking and observation and memory to recall

I did this about a week ago. I thought I was smashing it until the very last one and I think I may muddled a couple up

I am speaking to signaller recruitment now regarding this. On the basis that if you have passed the virtual ability assessment you have 6 months before you have to take it again.

I found the 3 dots around the E and the Same shape test quite easy
That was a piece of p**s was just the grid challenge that got me! Had a couple hiccups on the multitasking task as well.

Anyone about to do it don't use a wireless mouse is defo the best advice I can give

Hi everyone! New here. Been reading the last few pages and thought I'd introduce myself. I was offered a Grade 2 Signalling position in the Guide Bridge area. Provisional start date 15 January 2024, IST in Preston 29 January 2024. I've come over from healthcare and this was my timeline (all this year):

Applied online - 8 Sept
Psychometric tests - 11 Sept
Interview - 12 Oct (invite received 26 Sept )
Offer - 13 Oct!

Was told I'd be contacted in November for an 'in-house' medical.

Looking forward to it all!!

Evening all, I'm looking for example 12 hour roster(s) that will fit a single panel with 8 residents and 2 relief covering 24hrs - any current or previous signallers got any examples they can share? Thanks in advance!

Keep your chin up mate.Best advice i was given is to keep applying for whatever comes up you will get there. Some people are really lucky and get through straight away.Others like me take years to get in.Personally it took me five years to get an offer after 25 applications.Best of luck in your journey.

LOL i am determined and stubborn.I have seen other guys say on this forum say it took a lot longer than me to get an offer. For example one guy said it took him nine years of applying on/off to get the role.To quote LOM who was once a regular contributor on this thread he said when he interviewed people sometimes there would be several people he interviewed who he knew would be ideal for the job. However if he only had one role to offer he couldnt set them all on.His advice was to keep applying and eventually if you are the right fit for the role you will get set on.

Yeah that sounds like solid advice

Probably the determination to keep applying shows the keen interest in role too

Wanted to ask about the flexi contract vs permanent

And pros and cons of each

And what's the difference between flexi and relief contracts?

Hi guys, had my medical Monday and was just wondering how long I should expect to wait to hear back with a formal offer?

I assume you were told that you passed the medical? I had mine with Optima 2 weeks ago and was informed straight away that I had passed. I then got a phone call 2 days later confirming my start date. It would vary though, depending on location.

No same as another guy who done it a similar time to me , there wasn’t an indication of wether it was a pass or fail and was just told NR would receive all the medical info, so I’m hoping that’s only because of it being a different location

Optima took a urine sample and tested it on site. He confirmed no concerns. He stated if there was any slight doubt on the readings, it would need to be sent to the lab to confirm that all was okay. If you know it was sent to the lab, you have to wait around a week for those results. This is why he confirmed with me on the day that I had passed the medical as extra checks were not required. My medical was with Optima in York. They no longer have the contract and it's now done in house with NR I believe.
