Hello,

I have an Anytime Day Single from Woolwich Arsenal to Belvedere.

Can anyone advise whether this is valid from Woolwich Elizabeth Line rather than Woolwich Arsenal?

Thanks!

The NRE App is offering the Zone U456 London to Belvedere single at £6.80. Probably not.

No, unfortunately not. There is no "Woolwich Stations" group.

in any event, TfL claim that a ticket with Underground validity (e.g. U Zone, Maltese cross or interavailability) is required for use of the Elizabeth line 'core' section between Paddington and Abbey Wood/Stratford.

Thanks both. That's a pity as it would have been more convenient for me.

Why are you using paper tickets for such a journey?

The Anytime Day Single costs £3.80.
PAYG singles are £3.20 peak and £2.80 off-peak. The PAYG fares are the same for both Woolwich Arsenal and Woolwich (EL).

Worth noting if that's the only journey the paper Network Railcard fare at the weekend would be less than the Oyster or Contactless fare.

Paper ticket as booked through our corporate travel provider.

I entered Woolwich as my origin and have ended up with a ticket from Woolwich Arsenal.

if travelling from Woolwich Arsenal. From Woolwich EL you'd need the U-zone ticket.

I can't see how it would be quicker to get to Belvedere changing at Abbey Wood rather than the direct train from Woolwich Arsenal

I suspect the itinerary starts with a walk, in which case the ticket was correctly issued from Woolwich Arsenal.

It's about 4-5 minutes to walk from Woolwich to Woolwich Arsenal, however the time taken to get to the actual platforms at Woolwich, plus the walk at Abbey Wood, is probably about the same.

What's the itinerary?

08.14 from Woolwich Arsenal, arrive Belvedere 08.22. No mention of a walk. Even though I entered Woolwich as my origin. I think the booking engine just picked the Woolwich station with the direct service. Suggests that it considered Woolwich stations to be a group, even though it then provides a ticket without that flexibility.

Others are very welcome to test out a similar dummy booking on various sites.

I am staying in a hotel that is a bit closer to Woolwich.

I would have been aiming to change at Abbey Wood onto the same service that I'm now going to be catching from Woolwich Arsenal.

It'll just be a rubbish booking engine; most of these corporate sites seem to be rubbish for so many reasons.

It should do something like this:
Total Journey Time: 17 minutes

Walk from Woolwich (Elizabeth line) to Woolwich Arsenal

12:14

12:22

3 stops

00h 08min (Southeastern service)

Woolwich Arsenal

Belvedere

The only hotel I know that might fit what's been described is Premier Inn Woolwich, it's 7 minutes to Woolwich Arsenal vs 4 minutes to Woolwich. Yet the speeds on Google Maps are very slow, so at a normal walking speed its probably 4 minutes vs 3 minutes, not much in it

I haven't tried it but ...

Maybe on Trainsplit or the Rail Forums website, we can book from Woolwich Elizabeth Line to Belvedere, and put Woolwich Arsenal in a station to avoid?

Yes, or you could exclude walks.

Yes, that's the one.

I don't have a problem with the little bit of extra walking. It just seems odd that I couldn't get a ticket from the closer station.

It requires a change at Abbey Wood, whereas Woolwich Arsenal doesn't. I understand the wish for choice, but from a journey planning perspective it doesn't make much sense to use the Elizabeth line here (unless you want to 'score' a certain type of traction)

Or in my case yellow-pen the line.

I'll get it on my return north.

As someone familiar with the area you're looking at maybe one minute extra walking to get to Woolwich Arsenal. Cut the corner through Beresford Square. Faster overall unless you get extremely lucky with the change at Abbey Wood.

Totally agree, although cannot cut diagonally across Beresford Square at the moment as it's being rebuilt.
