It would appear from RTT that 69010 was allocated to 5Q24 Eastleigh to Derby today 26/02 (presumably a 701 returning to Derby) but the train was cancelled, reason not known.
So it was not for the paint shop after all, but 69011 which was expected from Longport for the paint shop has not come either !

69010 appears to have instead returned to Leicester L.I.P. as 0Z24.

Wouldn't be the cleanest after doing RHTT work!
A gradual conversion to 'Desert Sand' (also a 'Western' livery)!

I certainly hope not, there's no relationship between Res and 56s whatsoever so no reason to put one in that livery
I think several of the liveries applied to the 69s so far have no connection with 56s' liveries/work.

Agree, don't recall seeing a 56 in green or RTC red/blue livery!

Is this a class 69 heading to Leicester L.I.P. Via London Victoria?https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R03025/2024-02-28/detailed
From what I’m told it'll be 69008.

Do these locos actually do any work in between the trips to the paintshop?

Here's one at Newington.

If it is 008 getting named, let's see if it scrubs up as well as its first day - here running freshly released from Eastleigh.

That paint overspray on the silencer - I think @D1511 could teach 'em a thing or two... ;)
Haha! :D
Working at N gauge, I think I might need some thicker low tack masking tape and a bigger jar of maskol!

That is a shoddy job though.....I hope some hot exhaust takes care of that soon!

Well as others have been sharing images, here is 007 passing through York on Monday on 6N71 1145 Doncaster Up Decoy to Tyne S.S.

Authentic grime covered rail blue - very nostalgic!

i was going to ask if they’d done large logo blue yet, then saw the photo of 69002 which confirms they did. That’s a good one historically as 56036 was the first loco to carry this livery back in the day (with the yellow cabsides, think there was a class 47 just with the big double arrows much earlier?)

Candlelight? I take the works in Romania was dark and their electricity was poor. Or were the candles used as a tool?

Romania was behind the Iron Curtain at the time, and it seemed bizarre that Brush Traction did place its contract at a locomotive works in the Warsaw Pact country.
Yep, the workers worked by candlelight. There was an article about it at one point. Maybe wonder if it showed when the 69 programme involved one of that batch.

Oh, my understanding was that British Rail wanted delivery faster than Brush could deliver. Well, they sure got an improved delivery.

69009 is in a nice special livery!!!
Kudos to GBRf for eschewing corporate uniformity and blandness and bringing some much needed cheer to enthusiasts, and hopefully to their own staff too. And all for a relatively trivial cost to themselves. Well done !

This might have already been mentioned but what will most likely happen to 56 081? Conversion to 69017 or spares?
Given that the talk is at least 1 traction motor out of commission, the Class 69 conversion wouldn’t fix this, as the 69 retains the original Brush DC traction motors.

No word from GBRf yet. Officially, it’s still 009 and 097 in the programme.

It’s two motors isolated, as they can only be isolated in pairs.

Class 69 conversion does fix it, as the motors are overhauled as part of the work.

You’re right on both counts, but what I meant is that traction motor overhaul is not an activity that necessarily needs to be completed as part of a larger refurbishment workstream.
