Just looking at Traksy and seeing many northbound trains running 30-40 minutes late. What has caused the hold ups?

1Y59 (1726 out of Euston) pulled the wires down on the down fast line near Primrose Hill tunnel, both pantographs damaged beyond repair. Around 500 passengers evacuated and taken back to Euston by coach. Last ones off after three hours.
Train stranded awaiting rescue by loco.

Anyone know if 1Y59 will be moved by tomorrow morning as there's a chance Avanti trains could be delayed due to congestion in that area if it's not moved.

Just looked on Railcam and its still where it was yesterday although there's nothing on National Rail about about any problems with trains in Euston area.

Once they can move it where will they move it to? I suppose they can somehow move it to the sidings alongside where it broke down.

Would it go up to Northampton or Bletchley under Loco haulage? Or to the carriage sidings at Willesden?

Three hours. Still far too long to leave people stranded on trains.

Apparently many passengers forced to walk back to Euston - that’s not acceptable either

Looks more like the man pictured has pulled the egress and done that himself, with the BTP officer (I think) looking to be telling him off for doing so.
Perhaps, I suppose there is no catering for that. One imagines a terse reply!

Looks like everythings crossing over to the up slow still as 1Y59 is still there. Unsure if the down fast can be used however.

Train is still there, no rescue locos available so the two units will be dragged away separately by another 350 at some point this morning.
Repairs to the overheads have been completed overnight.

So it is. Strange. Maybe they had to release the doors due to the heat. I can't see them telling people just to jump off, though - normally a ladder is placed at one door and people are escorted off.
700 hundred passenger were on board, evacuated via Camden sidings and then on to Gloucester Avenue where coaches were used to return passengers to Euston for onward travel.

Nothing in logs to say that any passengers self evacuated, or any issues incurred with the evacuation.

Amazing that 15 hours after the incident the 2 units are still on the fast near the Roundhouse with no staff around. A wonderfully accessible site with road access on Gloucester Avenue 49 yards away.
Poor pic taken by friend overlooking the WCNL.m at 9.45am day after.
The slow evacuation & the units being abandoned overnight on the down fast a mile from Euston says all you need to know about the modern railway, its concern for passengers & the web of bureaucracy smothering the industry.

Rescue unit arrived wrong road to collect 2 dead units 10.28am.
Interesting how long it takes to pull the 2 dead units towards Primrose Hill tunnels.

One rescue unit should attach to one unit and move it north, then another unit should move second unit, that was the plan?

Or are you saying one unit has moved both units?

Only rescue unit is powered as both failed units have damaged pantographs which are strapped down.

Tug unit & 2 dead units moved off northwards on down fast at 11.16am.
Impressively short time compared to the hopeless performance from 6pm till an hour ago.

So, the train had to be evacuated last night.
There was overhead line damage which had to be repaired overnight, without overhead power the trains couldn’t be recused.
Tell me how you would have moved the trains after 6pm last night?

One unit has been detached. Another rescue unit coming for the other one. It was pulled forward to a straighter bit of track as the rear unit was on a can’t making coupling tricky.

The two dead units were only pulled to a straighter section of the line to allow for easier coupling before one was detached. It still remains there now.

From Facebook:
I passed them as they were leaving the train, I wondered what was going on! Seemed like they had them walking/waiting at Camden. I was on a fast to Birmingham, but it took an hour to Bletchley, way longer than it usually would've.
