how was the training difficulty? anything to look out for specifically, and did u go with a union and take any insurance on your first day, im waiting for my training date which will probs be beginning of next year, bit nervous about the trainingFinal post from me my training is now fully completed the 4 weeks flew past. Thanks to everyone that has helped along the way hopefully everyone TFL Journey is smooth and quick. I will say it’s a lot of fun be hungry and engage when in the classroom and live learning as there’s so much different things you need to know especially when getting that CSA 1 License.
I was told the contract comes 3-4 weeks before your start dateCan I ask to those who started their trainings already as to when they got their contract prior to their start date?

This is excellent advice and should be pinned!Training is intense but you need to just listen to every intricate detail the trainer/trainers give
Take notes all the way through, if your group are friendly it’s always handy to join a WhatsApp group with your training group to share tips and ideas.
On the first week, day one or day two normally (but not always) you are given your staff pass and iPad!
On the iPad you will need to complete a number of Ezone training courses relevant to your role.
You will be given work books in either a physical form or a digital form on the iPad (normally digital nowadays)
The first test from memory is the fire, health and safety test, so please put all your focus in to that at the course and when you get home, don’t obsess over it as a lot of the answers are common sense.
Then you will do some other tests, you must meet the 80% threshold or you will have to do a retake, don’t worry if you have to retake as the trainer wants you to pass so they will do everything they can to make sure that happens as it’s often a reflection of the trainers particular style why the individual may not pass the first time.
Ask lots of questions if your unsure as there is a lot of TFL jargon you will need to get the hang of, a lot of jargon is bullet pointed in the back of the books and on the share point which you can access on the IPAD.
Remember don’t be afraid of asking questions even if you think it sounds silly, no question is ever silly if you’re new to a role.
if anyone has any specific questions please don’t hesitate to ask! I had a previous account on here but I forgot the login details.
And a bit of background, I’ve been with LU for 4 years now and it’s safe to say it is a forever job unless you plan on moving abroad
Thank you MawkieThis is excellent advice and should be pinned!

I'd say to you what I say to everyone who asks that question...do you recommend going with a union then ? im a bit sceptical if its worth it.
Very insightful!! Thanks !! How does one decide which union does one join? ( I do realize its a personal choice but wondering if you can throw in some pointers for us ).I'd say to you what I say to everyone who asks that question...
You don't have to go looking for trouble on the Underground; trouble can find you.
A lot of the work you will do is safety critical in nature, and LU take safety extremely seriously. Make a simple mistake in Tesco and they won't do much about it, but make a simple mistake on the railway, and you could cost someone their life, or in many cases, hundreds of lives.
Most Reps won't help you if you seek to join the union after you find out you need their help.
Also, presumably you like the idea of working for LU because of the generous holidays, the good pension, the salary, and so on? Those things are not gifted to staff by a generous employer, they have been fought for by generations of staff - and still are being fought for! RMT has a current, active mandate for strike action over pay and conditions!
That fight is brought to the employer via strong unions. Strong unions are brought about by active Members.

For CSAs, it's essentially the RMT (not a bad choice in my opinion).Very insightful!! Thanks !! How does one decide which union does one join? ( I do realize its a personal choice but wondering if you can throw in some pointers for us ).

I just re-read my previous post and realised it was a bit full-on. So for a better balance:
There are no closed shops anymore.
Nobody is compelled to join a union.
You will not be treated differently if you choose not to join a union.
Lots of people are union members and never go to a branch meeting.
Lots of people have no experience of unions or what know what they do. The Reps will appear during your training, along with a representative from LU (who makes sure the Union reps don't go over their allotted time!) and explain what they will do for you.
At the end of the day, it is a personal choice if you want to join a union or not.

Hard to say as it could be at anytime. That being said, the most recent CSA vacancies that just went have a waiting list within a two year period.Hi everyone, when does the next set of CSA2 vacancies come out?
Thanks
Based on the people in this forum who are starting posts etc. Long did it take from applying to starting the job?Hard to say as it could be at anytime. That being said, the most recent CSA vacancies that just went have a waiting list within a two year period.
However, from my previous knowledge, CSA roles come out every year.
Well I can’t speak for others but for myself, I applied in February and passed all my tests in June.Based on the people in this forum who are starting posts etc. Long did it take from applying to starting the job?
Thanks
For myself it was exactly two years. Starting early January.Based on the people in this forum who are starting posts etc. Long did it take from applying to starting the job?
