Photos on the Arlington Fleet Services Ltd Facebook page show that 57002 has been painted black in the same livery as 57311. I must say it looks really smart. It will return to Crewe early next week as stated on their post.

Interesting. The first time an AC loco has appeared on the Riviera presumably?
More than likely, yes.

Also in today’s news, Mk1 RU / Kitchen 1666 has since been released from Eastleigh with another new coat of paint already. It is now in Carmine and Cream to match the Saphos Rake.

Apparently Blue Peter is running tomorrow on the Christmas White Rose from Cewe to York. I don't have a link, maybe one could be provided.

So how are the coaches heated at the normal terminus of Paddington or am l missing something?
Top and tailed by 57s from Reading to Paddington. The front loco is then shut down as it’s in the train shed, while the rear loco is either then switched on and provides ETS or is already running and has its ETS switched on as it’s outside of the train shed.

I do wonder if this could give GWR an idea in the future, where the ECS loco is electric and saves fuel / noise emissions at Paddington.

90001 on its way to Euston tonight for GW Night Riv Sleeper duties (carriage Heating).
And here is a picture of 90001 on top of the sleeper at Euston. This was the arrival from Penzance on Monday 18th. The picture shows 90001 coupled to 57605 at Euston.

It would be a good idea if only the GWML was linked to the LMR around Acton Wells - unless it has recently been joined up. AIUI the ECS from Reading couldn't climb up from Acton Main line towards Willesden to get to Euston without having a diesel on the front

Indeed, but I wasn’t suggesting for Euston though. Don’t forget Reading to Paddington is under the wires, and this is what I was thinking about for regular 6 day a week Night Riviera services (aka, into Paddington, not Euston).

Whilst this is a good idea having a 57/3 on hire with the Dellner coupling offers the advantage of rescuing units when the knitting fails. A 90 would not offer this advantage.

That would depend on which 57/3 it was for the equipment fitted for rescuing units. There's some significant variation between the units as to what they can and can't couple to.

I’d assumed an ACL would replace a 57, removing contingency at the London end. A contingent ACL won’t get the down service past Newbury or Swindon.

Wikipedia says GWR are operating 57312, as per the previous RailUK discussion here.

She sounded in high spirits through Acton Bridge on the home stretch this evening:

I take it no major hiccups today, all in all?

My friends back in Hebden Bridge tell me that she was 34 minutes late through there on the return journey, following an eleven minutes late departure from York and an extended unscheduled stop at Wakefield Kirkgate.
