Nothing between Newport and Shrewsbury this morning, hopefully this afternoons marches trains are 4 and 5 coaches, they could be cosy.
Incorrect info? Their journey check has said no trains are running beyond Weston to Exeter for hours. You can get to Exeter on Falcon every hour if you want to pay or via Westbury and Yeovil as that route is now fully open althought ticket acceptance not in place.Jumped on a GWR IET at Filton Abbeywood, that stated that it was going to Plymouth, which was then promptly cancelled at Bristol.
Apparently Taunton, Exeter etc are flooded, the only trains going south from Temple Meads in the next 4 hours are the going to be the odd service to Weston-Super-Mare.
A lot of people in same boat - needlessly travelling because of incorrect information!
Carmarthen-swansea-paddington also running. However I'm glad I didn't keep my plans of a trip to Cornwall to visit friends.Thames valley services all running as per timetable so not sure why a do not travel warning fir the entire network
Is that a rail-replacement boat?A lot of people in same boat - needlessly travelling because of incorrect information!
and leading to very few LNWR trains runningNorthampton station flooded.
I am not sure this is actually happening or if it is it is only just starting. Bletchley sidings, which have been empty for the past week are full of units.Apparently the access to Northampton depot is flooded so all they've got is the units/crews* at Bletchley. Potentially a fair few 730s out?
* Presumably until they put a temporary arrangement in place.
Doubt it, the line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon is still very much closedCarmarthen-swansea-paddington also running. However I'm glad I didn't keep my plans of a trip to Cornwall to visit friends.
Hence why the blanket wide do not travel due to uncertainty.Jumped on a GWR IET at Filton Abbeywood, that stated that it was going to Plymouth, which was then promptly cancelled at Bristol.

The advice is wrt travel beyond Swindon.Thames valley services all running as per timetable so not sure why a do not travel warning fir the entire network
That's odd rtt is showing the services as running, however having now checked the 0656 departure from Swansea it's showing as departing Bristol parkway at 0837 and hasn't yet cleared another station ect on rtt.Doubt it, the line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon is still very much closed

There is nothing about this in the media, any update or confirmation?A friend of mine has reported a roof collapse at York Hospital
Never ceases to amaze me how many get upset with that. Why does the BBC News website keep referring to flooded train lines? haven't they heard of the word railway?![]()
Well if they are in a boat, they probably have a better chance of getting where they want to go!A lot of people in same boat

Not upset about it....it's just sloppy journalism.Never ceases to amaze me how many get upset with that.
Perhaps it is a bit of clandestine advertising for a well known ticketing site?![]()
Thanks. Presumably it's where the line crosses the river just North of the station. The Upper Nene must be really high - this didn't happen in the 1998 flood. If so, the sets stabled in the station area might possible have water damage.
Strange that, as far as I could see an hour or so ago, LNw running no trains at all North of Tring isn't worth mentioning on either NRES or LNw's 'status & disruption' section, only report is a couple of lifts out of order.
Not surprised. There wasn't much confidence in 15:00.Current estimate for reopening to Stansted is 1700.

Greater Anglia disruption as fallen trees damage overhead wires
Trains are not expected to run between Harlow Town, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.www.bbc.co.uk
Northampton station is at South Bridge. There's no monitoring there, but West Bridge peak last night was about 1 metre below 1994. But proactivity then.Back in 1998 where was a risk to the appropriately named Riverside Sidings (which had some 321's berthed) , working as "one railway" , and getting some advice from Fleet - we dragged them out with a local 08 to safety. It was pretty disrupted for a while.......
Northampton station is actually at Westbridge.Northampton station is at South Bridge.
A train goes down the train line to arrive at a train station.... doesn't get much easier than that. Not upset about it....it's just sloppy journalism.

Sorry, totally confused myself - I should know better, I'm a native. For South read West and v.v. and it makes sense (I hope).Northampton station is actually at Westbridge.
The station adjacent to South Bridge was the old Bridge Street station closed many decades ago.
Having been in town today, I can vouch that the flooding around the River and north of the station is pretty impressive, although it's far from the first time it's been up top these levels.
"Train" has multiple meanings, and basically means (or has come to mean) something that follows something else - a train of thought, a train of cloth behind a long frock, a train of followers behind a leader, celebrity, and so on.A train goes down the train line to arrive at a train station.... doesn't get much easier than that.
Judging by the videos I have seen from Walsden area, it's more likely to be a submarine making that journey
Yes, it was pretty damp there on Saturday....but the line was reopened on Sunday morning. It's slightly ironic that the worst flooding on the Calder Valley usually occurs close to the summit of the line. The problem is the extremely shallow bridge that carries the line across Walsden Water just South of Winterbutlee Tunnel. When the beck floods, it just flows straight over the top of the railway (Sorry....train line!) and then goes very rapidly to the left and right into the cuttings. A similar situation appertains on the Leeds-Carlisle line at Switches Farm Crossing - about a mile South of Hellifield - which is the summit of the Skipton-Settle Junction section. There the excess rain water just pours off the sloping fields on the East side of the line, through the crossing gates and then runs both ways along the railway.Judging by the videos I have seen from Walsden area, it's more likely to be a submarine making that journey
