I will become 60 years old this month.

Is there any reason I can't buy a ticket with a senior Railcard discount now for tickets dated March 2025, to take advantage of some discount currently going around.

I will of course buy and travel with a Railcard in the New Year.

No reason why not. I do it all the time - you only have to have a valid railcard when you travel.

That would be my reasoning
It's not reasoning, it's the rules, see https://assets.nationalrail.co.uk/e...3/National_Rail_Conditions_of_Travel_2024.pdf
8. Railcards
8.1 If you use a Railcard to purchase a discounted Ticket, you must carry the Railcard (and
have it available for inspection) when you travel. The Railcard must be within its period
of validity when you travel (in other words it should not have expired).
Other rules state that you may be required to show the railcard when buying the ticket from a ticket office, but there is no similar requirement for on-line purchases.

Some ticket office appear to seek to accelerate the demise of ticket offices by refusing to issue tickets under such circumstances.

However, we would be much more welcoming of your custom on our ticket website, and we may find a cheaper deal than a ticket office would.
