My bedroom window overlooks the line coming out of Harold Wood Station going towards Gidea Park.

Anyone have any views from their home/flat etc.

A 5 minute walk very handy as I don't drive.

I have family that live directly opposite Worthing station. It used to be more fun to watch the trains in the past though! South West Trains, 158s, 313s etc... now its endless electrostars!

I live beside a station on the Harrogate Line. Mainly just the drone from the 170s on the line so it isn't too bad.

I'm next to the South Fylde line. 150's and 156's only these days - when they can be bothered running a service :'(

Friend of mine's parents used to live in a bungalow about 60ft from the WCML down fast, which was at ground level at that point. A bit too much of a good thing!

We can see the trains from our Kitchen window and my workshop window, however they are probably 400 yds away, on a low embankment just north of Bempton station. Quite noticable particularly when its still, as the sound carries.

I'm within a couple hundred yards of the Ramsgate branch of the Chatham Main Line. Mostly just Electrostars and Javelins.

I'm just to the north of Leeds Station. A bit of river footpath, the River Aire, the surface car park... then Platform 0. I can see what's in P17 for when I travel to Sheffield!

I used to live within earshot of Heaton depot, and it was always nice around bedtime hearing the hum of a Class 91 settling down for the night.

I live next to Barry Depot, however with a obstructed view :/ I can hear the 756's being shuffled around and sometimes see them behind the trees! I can hear the 150's and 153's waking up in the morning and reversing and what not, not something that a closed window doesn't sort out!

I would say to anyone with an unobstructed view why not host a railcam! I'd love to as I believe you get Railcam Pro for free if you do, I'd do it if people would be interested in a view of trees and or static Class 756's in Barry Depot!

A link if anyone is interested in hosting (i'm not paid or acting on behalf of Railcam, I'm just a subscriber of railcam!)

I can see the WCML as Northbound trains pull out of Wigan North Western. Obviously most of the times I look it's an Avanti or Northern train, but you get a fair bit of freight and some heritage charters too. I can see about 3 yards of the Headbolt Lane branch too, so the Knowsley Bins train if I look at the right time.

1997-2012 v close to South Croydon station (5 running lines). After a short while only got disturbed by the very irregular tampers and class 37s or 66s standing at platform 4. Most memorable was waking up to silence because of snow.

I can see the Northumberland Line (Blyth and Tyne) which on Sunday will be the UKs newest passenger line. Its been interesting watching the first day with a full timetable today (sans passengers). I can also see a small part of the freight only North Blyth branch.

Can see Burntisland viaduct (currently undergoing restoration) from my kitchen and bedroom window, may try and host a live railcam - excellent idea.
I get a good mix of traction being the main line from Edin - Aberdeen (ECN) so 158s, 170s, HSTs, 220/221s & the odd charter and NR trains regularly

Used to live in a house next to Hall Road depot on the Liverpool-Southport line.
When I was at uni at Lancaster my room looked out towards the WCML, so could see and hear the trains.
First lived in Formby with the level crossing further down the road....when I was a kid the arcing from the 502s in icy/snowy weather would reflect off my ceiling! Good view of the Southport to London Euston steam hauled service (two coaches), which joined up with the train to London from Lime Street.
Now live in Crosby and can see the trains crossing the level crossing from my front gate...difficult to hear them now, they are quieter.

Live parallel to the MML north of St Albans - it is in a cutting with a very frequent service , not a bother at all over 32 years - but the freights can be heard at night (which I rather like) - any horn noises can be put down to trackworks being appropriately warned.

Indeed. Nothing to do with *that* footbridge :).

I tried to sell my back garden to HS2 but I was too far away from the final trackbed. Does that count? I had visions of sitting there in my dotage watching these high speed trains rush past on their way to Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham.

Domestic Management didn't seem quite so keen so maybe it's just as well I'm close, but not close enough!

The signal protecting the entrance to Doncaster at South Yorkshire junction is at the end of my street. Depending of traffic noise and the wind direction, I can also hear the 91s arriving and departing as well.

I spent the first eighteen years of my life in a house adjacent to the Durham Coast line: Slightly frustratingly, this largely aligned with a fallow period in the route's history, spanning the decline in locally extracted coal traffic (with Wearmouth colliery a notable loss when the winding towers visible from the front window were felled) and the opening of the Sunderland Metro extension, reintroduction of direct London services, establishment of Seaham cement traffic and development of regular power station flows to Yorkshire from Tyne Dock.

Later, I lived overlooking the North Warwickshire line to Stratford: During the summer, the weekly passage of the 'Shakespeare Express' steam service from Birmingham signalled the point in a Sunday morning after breakfast when it was time to shake off the residual hangover and decide what to do with the day.

In general, I'm happy to live largely out of immediate sight of the railway these days, but it's notable how few places I've lived have been beyond sound of the nearest line.

HS2 trains will still be on their way to Glasgow and Manchester, just not Leeds.

Until April this year I lived in Lancaster, about 30-40 feet from the WCML. Loved having trains passing by, except sometimes in summer when I had windows open with music playing, or listening to the radio, then the trains were too loud. The Post Office trains were great, they went bombing past, very distinctive sound they made.

Sometimes late on Saturday evenings there'd be a long, heavy freight train racing past which would make the flat's walls vibrate.

And there were the steam rail tours passing too.

In my case half a mile, and up a steep hill, from the South Eastern mainline, between Chislehurst and Elmstead Woods. Trains are audible, but in no way intrusive (Networkers at 70mph by far the nosiest). The occasional letter comes through the door from Network Rail warning of and apologising for engineering work noise, but I haven’t ever been troubled by it.

It’s an area with an abundance of trees, but I can see the trains passing at this time of year with no leaves on the trees.

That's a cracking position to occupy for a variety of modern railway activity. Especially being just down the line from Carnforth for steam and heritage action.
