Introduction is indeed imminent and is intended to be on a full early return diagram, no individual token services or any silliness like that.

Nope, only 13 units are here of the 46 order. Still a long while to go but many will flood in during '25

And of that 13, I don't think 001, 006, 007, 026 and 027 has done any daytime testing yet so it's a really small pool even If we do see one or two in service soon.

Just hope once into service we don't see the shambles like the Mersey rail units we have seen.

As for the old fleet, well at least fleet availability have improved with many of the units sitting idle this time last year back in service. The issues will arrise in particular if we get any cold weather like we did last month.

What is the issue with cold weather and the existing units? Can't think what it would make a difference to.

I seem to remember hearing it was to do with moisture getting into the system which then freezes and causes power faults

A lot of the systems are air operated. Brakes, doors etc. Have issues getting brake release and brake faults. Doors don’t like working correctly. Power issues also. Basically the trains just don’t like the tiniest bit of cold.

The date that I had been aware of has now been and gone, which means either the timescale has slipped again or that my usually reliable source was incorrect this time.
I was told of two dates, one which seems to still be quite concrete and one which was more of a ‘we’ll wait and see’ there was only a matter of days between both. The more concrete date is still in the future, albeit the very near future (this side of christmas), with the other date having passed (today).

Just had a new metro come past at South Gosforth, not in service, but had a handful of people in suits on board. It didn’t have any of the driver training notices on it either.

I realise that I've lost all credibility, but I heard a rumour that 555021 is about to enter service today with 555002 as a recovery unit and 555020 as a replacement. *ducks for cover*

Who says you’ve lost credibility? You’re just sharing what you know.

Kim McGuinness has posted a post on X saying “guess what’s happening today” with a picture of two new Metros so today may be the day…

Now entered service with a couple of return trips Pelaw-Monkseaton to take place today. Indeed looks to be 555021.

Oooh at last! Happy days for the TW Metro staff and passengers!

So, do we know what the diagram will be doing over the weekend, particularly Sunday? No reason of course

From what I’ve been told they won’t be in use on a Sunday just yet.
Hopefully Metro will publish the diagram on twitter each day so people can easily go and try it out

T121 Thursday and Friday.
Apologies if I'm being dense and it is published somewhere but could someone actually post what the T121 diagram looks like? I've heard it referred to a few times now but I still don't know what times that actually relates to!

T121: Off the west end of the depot at 4:50am. Departs South Gosforth in service at 5:00am towards South Shields. Then operates South Shields-St James until the early evening.

Trains have specific running numbers. Yellow line trains are 121-136, green line trains are 101-112. The trains then run in numerical order on each line. So the new train will run as 121. 121 is the first from South Shields on a weekday morning. The timetables don’t show specific running numbers unfortunately.

Thank you both, safe to say I won't be at Regent Centre at 0511 but at least have some idea of where to go hunting now :)

It's the 04:58 from Regent Centre - South Shields, then like 05:44 South Shields - St James. First metro from depot. Then St James - South Shields line all day until evening.

December 2023 diagrams are available here, I don't know how different they are from the current December 2024 diagrams but the times given above seem to match 121 on this.

Based on the fleet list one post above, looks like a lot are complete but still in Switzerland, presumably waiting for depot space? Guessing they should be able to get those over quickly once the old stock goes out of service.
