I noticed that on the Intellectual Property Office site, the Network SouthEast branding has been licensed by SE Trains Limited.

Recorded licences

Details of licensed users of the trade mark.

Licence number RC000152388 Exclusive licence No Start date 01 April 2020 End date 01 April 2022 Status Accepted Licence holder London & South Eastern Railway Limited
3rd Floor, 41-51 Grey Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, NE1 6EE, United Kingdom
Licence representative Urquhart-Dykes & Lord LLP
The Core, Bath Lane, Newcastle Helix, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE4 5TF, United Kingdom

Could this mean that SouthEastern will be rebranded as Network SouthEast?

If you see the cancelled previous licence under it, I suspect they needed the licence of the whole brand to be called "Southeastern" as it's so close it'd be passing off, and have probably already had it.

I understand, along similar lines, that GTR licence the London Transport roundel in some form, because the Southern logo is so similar to it, despite historical precedent of this not being necessarily related.

That's possible I suppose.

I’ve just been sent two images of 465908 in its new livery and I was wondering now that it’s in NSE will it go to the greatest gathering in August?

Seems daft to me to repaint a 465/9 when they’ve not got long left, would have made more sense to do a /0 or a /1.

I believe a /9 was repainted because they are more popular amongst enthusiasts and also 908 was at Doncaster so they took the opportunity to repaint it then. 901 would have been better to repaint in my opinion because it is the first metro-camel 465.

Agreed, unless a small amount is expected to be retained long term, all the BREL motor versions are poor on reliability so they probably won't last the first wave of replacements.

Nothing of the sort.

As others have said, bizarre to go for a /9. Surely you want one that is going to last until the end.

In no way are 465/9s ‘more popular with enthusiasts’.

Well I suppose we know why now! :D
Indeed - I did wonder at the time if they were planning something like this. The unit has also received the name Chris Green:-

Southeastern has invited RailAdvent to London Charing Cross today (25th February) to see the official launch of Networker 465908 in its brand-new livery.
The Networker has been out-shopped at Doncaster in Network Southeast livery, a homage to the livery the class first wore when brand new and is part of the Railway 200 celebrations.
465908 made its way overnight earlier this month from Doncaster to Slade Green before heading to Gillingham depot, again, overnight.

Some night owls have already seen part of the livery, but Southeastern has kept some features under wraps and a surprise for the official launch, naming the unit after Network SouthEast’s Chris Green

As part of the official launch, we were able to get on the train for a look and can say that the interior has undergone a deep clean, smelling fresh and looking clean.
However, the interior is still in Southeastern colours and not Network SouthEast.

465908 will be back in passenger service across the Southeastern network but is part of a planned phase-out of the Networker train.

It is hoped they will be replaced by a modern, environmentally friendly train that has charge points and potentially traction battery to help get passengers to the nearest station in times of disruption.

The repaint comes as a gift from Angel Trains and could potentially be the last ever unit to be repainted at Wabtec in Doncaster, which is planning to close its doors.

The livery has had a couple of tweaks from the original to make it disability compliant, such as door colours, etc, but I’m sure you will agree that it looks absolutely stunning!

What’s the plan for 465908?
Well, it is planned to attend the Ashford Depot Open Day as part of Railway 200, which will be used on charity railways. Lastly, Steve White confirmed the unit will be attending The Greatest Gathering in Derby.

It will also be used next year as part of the 40th Anniversary of Network Southeast.

Had a look on the Rail 200 website, can't seem to find anything about an Ashford Depot opening day. Anyone have anymore info on this?

That is one fine looking machine. Some elements look a bit dated, but I’m amazed at how well it holds up.

I'd never think I'd see one again. I used to love watching NSE branded Networkers (especially exciting as I grew up on the Central Division) roll in and out of Charing Cross over Hungerford Bridge. "Network SouthEast" and "Kent Link Networker" were the coolest sounding phrases ever when I was 5.

Was at the event today. Great stuff and the train really looks vibrant. Some photos attached.

Southeastern have confirmed on Twitter that services being run by the NSE unit will be announced as 'Network Southeast'.

Still looks good. The railway needs another winning 'complete package' identity like this. The London Underground has managed to have one, along with 'London Overground' and the Elizabeth Line, but whilst Southern isn't bad, it's not great. Thameslink is woeful, and SouthEastern, Great Northern, and South Western Railway aren't brilliant either.

Stagecoach's South West Trains was probably the best one.

In fact, of the current line up, none of them jump out like Network Southeast.

Satchi & Satchi need another hit!

The clock will be remaining for some time, and those trains operated by 465908 will be advertised on the board with the NSE logo at the bottom.

That has to be one of the best things I've seen in years! All credit, the railway does know how to do a proper job when it wants too!

Now if they could just brand the rest of it like that and keep it...

I thought the grey doors might have looked better in white; the grey doors just take the edge off an otherwise excellent job.

NSE did have some good line branding - Wessex Electrics was my favourite.

Nice to see Chris Green honoured - my admiration for the man knows no bounds.
