Loughborough town routes would release around 13 vehicles albeit the solos might be withdrawn as they're nearly 20 years old (only seems like yesterday they were launched)

An exciting year in Loughborough that's for sure with arrival investment in electrics too.

I do hope the solos go - I've only been here a few months and am sick to death of them

The council still hadn't put the missing bus stop poles/flags in for the Link2 service as of a week ago (they have had since November...).

The downloadable timetable for the Link 2 says 'Effective 2 March 2025' on it, so these changes have been delayed a bit

Would this route actually be viable? It's not connecting Spondon to anything like the Arriva routes will do
Judging by the timetable it seems it's just an off-peak usage of a school bus. So it doesn't really cost anything to the operator, except fuel. Though, I can't imagine it will be particularly busy.

Unlikely to be viable. If anything though it may take custom away from arriva which will serve much the same area. Notts and derby are also serving the Huntley Avenue part of the old Spondon Flyer route. They are also offering through tickets onto the Ilkeston Flyer which will be much quicker to Derby than Arriva.

Although limited times of operation, it will run every 30 minutes compared to hourly on the arriva 20.

Surprised the 19 isn't serving Asda, I would have thought that would be a logical move. Worth noting there is no bus stop marked at Spondon railway station, and nowhere to turn round until you get to the island at the bottom of the raynesway service road.

Oh I think they could turn round in the entrance to the old Celanese. Maybe the whole point of the service is to annoy Arriva using Government BSIP money.

The Arriva Spondon service is also BSIP funded though, so these have been co-ordinated by the city council

20/21 Derby to Chaddesden and Spondon
We're introducing a brand new bus service for Spondon, delivered in partnership with Derby City Council through the council's Bus Service Improvement Plan.

Bet it's just using a school bus in the day time so will be 9 am till 2 ISH as there's no way they can change drivers in either chesterfield or alfreton

they have a route which runs into alfreton anyway so wouldnt be any different. plus theres always the comet and other routes which could get drivers up to the changeover points. Also DCC state the timetable will stay mostly the same so I doubt it

Could almost use TM Travel drivers too, from the northern end. The Wellglade Bus Company has a ring to it.

Would that bus not be at the wrong end of the route?
I'd argue the opposite. The morning trip leaves Chesterfield at 7:45, so an arrival in the Chesterfield at say 7:30 would be good for anyone going beyond or who starts early. Conversely there is probably little demand for leaving Chesterfield southbound that early that the Comet wouldn't cover.

Similarly in the evening, the DC4 arrives back in to Chesterfield at 17:32, a departure at say 17:45 would be good for people getting off work or finished shopping for the day to get home. Again, likely little traffic in to town at that time of day.

What kind of bus works the DC4?

Well, sorry to disappoint @psmith2023 but it is reported that in the Derbyshire Times that:

The 55 service, which runs from Chesterfield to Alfreton, will be run by Notts and Derby. The timetable and route will stay mainly the same as the former Hulleys 55 service, with a couple of small changes.
As for how it can be operated by N&D, they could shorten it (at either end) and amend timings to enable breaks to be built in OR use crew ferries from Langley Mill depot. There are all manner of ways of doing it - I'd recommend waiting and seeing.

My point about TM Travel drivers was, well even Trentbarton were using TM drivers in Derby last year. So why not Notts and Derby.

You were talking about operating it from the Northern end. Last year was getting TM drivers to operate Derby based boards. Not the same thing.

Oh, (and for others rather than yourself) the new times and route has been published. All day service and shortened at both ends…who’d have thought?

55 - Notts and Derby have published the map and timetable for tomorrows start.

Notts and Derby

Map in News and Timetable in timetables.

It is a simplified route and hourly service.
Those knowing the area can comment.
From Hulley's thread.
Chesterfield New Beetwell St to Alfriston omitting Morton.
Hourly Alfreton dep 6:35am to arr 8:05 pm with 2 buses.

It's good to see N&D moving fully back into the public service market with the 147,148,L1,L2,19 and 55 added in the last few months. They'd seemed to be running down their service buses over the past decade or so.

They do seem to make the post of available opportunities. They then take those opportunities and provide a reliable service and their business (and profit) grows. In time that leads to future investment.
