Dog fouling in front garden

Last few weeks I've been coming home from work to see dog poo on the border between the pavement and my front garden. There's no fence it's just the door in front of the pavement.

It's obviously the same dog. Semi detached house with no other houses within 100m and big grassy field out front.

What would you do? It happens while I'm at work and can't afford a fortune on CCTV to find the owner.

I can't use deterrent granules as I have cats.

Cheers a quick look on eBay showed lots of £50+ products. This seems ok but I was concerned cheap meant rubbish picture.

There are apps to use an old phone (even a tablet) as a camera that you could put in a window facing out. Don't do it long-term as the chances are a hot day will cause issues with the device and potentially have the phone/tablet battery bulge up. But for this sort of thing it's quick and easy - and free. One good app is https://alfred.camera/ that I used to use before investing in some Blink wireless cameras.

I have an intermittent problem with someone putting full dog doo bags in my green bin. The green bin is for garden waste and food waste. Dog waste should go in the black waste bin. I printed out and taped a a very simple A4 sheet to my bin and my front window. It says:

DONT PUT YOUR DOG **IT BAGS IN MY GREEN BIN with a crossed picture of a dog doing.

I found it worked quite well.

( the problem is that if the council see dog doo bags in the green bin they will reject the load)

Do you have any prickly bushes / trees in your garden (e.g. holly, berberis, etc.) If so, put some cuttings on you border next to the pavement near the area used by the dog. Most dogs dislike treading on prickles.

Spread liberally with cheap chili powder or cayenne pepper: I have heard of this, but never tried it myself. Alternatives are cheap vinegar or citrus fruit juice, but they might cause damage if used for any time.

None of the alleged popular "cat deterrents" worked according to a neighbour fed up with cats using her garden as a toilet.

Decades ago I used "Scent Off". Little green pellets (that stick to your fingers !). I put them in the gravel I had out the back and have not noticed any poo since.

Yes, one of my grandparents had bottles of water dotted round the garden (mostly finished squash bottles) years ago - it did nothing to stop the cats in the garden, much to their annoyance
